I can go with this. But WILL they? Who is talking about it? It seems the rhetoric is about something else besides getting out of the way.

What would be effective to communicate to my representative and senator so that they will vote for “getting out of the way”?

But WILL they?

If Romney and Ryan lived in a country where they were about to take over as Kings, they would slash regulation and taxes, and leave a safetynet so that no one in Staten Island froze to death waiting for electricity.

But "Will They?" rests entirely on "Can They?" ... and that goes to the house and senate ... and to some extent SCOTUS. Long term for American - the most consequential outcome of this election is that SCOTUS can be turned from sometimes rational to reliably rational. As for the senate and house, well I think that most democrats will wisely take the repudiation that is about to happen that they best change their ways and cooperate. The election of Mitt is in a way historic for conservatives in that we are screaming "NO! Turn off the Gridlock for a couple Years!" ... so that Romney can effectively rollback most ostensibly Obamacare, but then also deal with structuring taxes and regulation in a way that works economically.

Many conservatives at the statemet "Capitalism is a Government Program. " But it is - it's based on contracts which must be enforced and interpreted, and yes, there must be some tax, because even though 'You DID build it" ... you do also use roads, and you need regulation to some extent. What would a soccer match be without ANY rules? it wouldn't be soccer - would just be chaos.

The most important thing you can do to make sure "But Will They?" is answered in the affirmative, is to make sure you master the Constitution and understand economics - just enough to understand why JFK's oft referenced tax cuts raised revenue - how that works - and what Mitt means by 'reduce taxes, increase the base.' None of this is complicated. When they get complicated, you know you're being lied to.

If you can converse with libs confidently and without losing your head (it's actually quite fun - the less you lose your head, the more they do) ... then that's your contribution - people silently say 'hmmm, the guy seems congruent with what he says' ... many will not credit you, but many will change their minds.

In terms of interacting with government itself - understand the interests of politicians. If you do this without judging them (they DO deserve to be judged, but not in this excercise) ... they are motivated by where they see the sheep and lemmings run ... and then they go there first to look like leaders. So, lead the sheep and lemmings around you quietly. Influence their direction, so that they run towards where you want the pol to place himself.

Other than that - being super educated on not so much the debate about the issues but the underlying facts, and more importantly on the foundational principles which govern and simplify the billion individual issues into about two issues ... consider running for office.

Above all, be a happy warrior. Remember that the Republic, in this incarnation, can not last forever. Liberty came from God and not a government document. Maybe it's 50 years hence, maybe 200 ... doesn't matter ... that this Republic changes physical form. Carry principle with you, and you will influence more lives than if you make dramatic arguments and seek a means of being more persuasive.

Liberty was actually here before you got here, so it can't be destroyed. And so there is no reason, ever, to let your peace be disturbed by knowing there are those who would reduce it and destroy it. Ironically, your peace is what people latch onto more than your arguments when determining whether to follow you or not.
