Romney supporters are scared to death of another last minute Rathergate or NY Times document dump
Fraud and hoax Is what several readers posted after their investigation uncovered the identities of the people behind the An October Surprise website.
Turns out the readers were right. Once the identities were outed, the perps had to confess early:

Has an “October Surprise” ever been effectively executed against a Republican candidate for President, or is it just a bogey-man created by defeatists?
I love this sign on a NW Ohio voters door further down the page......
The minion of Satan Chris Lehane dumped then-Gov. Bush’s DUI on the media the weekend before the 2000 election. President Bush was up 3% in the popular vote at the time, and barely hung on to win the Electoral College.
Just a few days before the 2000 election, info surfaced regarding a Bush DUI many years before. It hurt Bush, probably made the election so close that the Supreme Court had to intervene. Of course, Bush prevailed.
That is a good question. I have actually asked a blogger to look into this. I may look into this this weekend.
The closest an October surprise has come to defeating a Republican was the drunk-driving story Al Gore dropped against George Bush the Friday or Saturday before the election.
Bush was up in the polls, but didn’t have any time to respond to the drunk driving story, thus the final vote was closer than it should have been, and we had the Florida debacle.
October surprises are almost moot now that early voting smears “election day” all over October and November. Can’t change a vote if you’ve already cast it.
you would think the morons that have been burnt by so many lies in the past would learn, .....but their liberals, and as we all know, their so smart, they have nothing to learn.... so so optimal
That’s assuming EVERYONE votes early. Fortunately it’s a pretty small percentage. (But it still gives the rats a better idea how many votes the need to gin up.)
No.
Ford, GHW Bush, Dole and McCain were not defeated by any last minute revelations.
Some argue Goldwater was defeated by the "Daisy Girl" TV commercial which first aired in September 1964.
But Goldwater was already trailing badly at that point.
Dewey, Wilkie, Landon and Hoover also couldn't complain of any October surprises either.
I’m sure they turned over every rock and dove thru every dumpster trying to find career-ending dirt on a Mormon.
They have to be pulling their hair out by now.
Bingo! You have sussed out the reason for early voting.
Really. Mitt looks to be so squeaky clean it’s probalby a scandal in itself to these folks ha ha. We know for sure there won’t be any DUIs in his closet!! (That line in his Alfred Smith dinner spiel was so dang funny!)
Old Whoopie G. tried to pull the Mormon card on him the other day. Short of him having 10 other wives stashed in Utah what the heck could they try?
The October surprise will be..............................
Proof that Romney lied about dying his hair.
It changed the polls significantly, he had been leading in the polls and was cruising until then. I think it caused Gore to win the popular vote and come within a hair in Florida.
Certainly there have been surprises against losing candidates, but polls didn't show them having a chance before the election.
A surprise breakthrough in the Vietnam War in October, 1968 probably would have defeated Nixon, but LBJ and Humphrey couldn't put it together. Kissinger's "Peace is at hand" press conference days before the 1972 might have cost McGovern a fraction of a point, but he was always going to lose in a landslide.
The left has long clung to the fantasy that Reagan cut a deal with the Iranians to delay releasing the hostages in 1980. However, there has never been an ounce of concrete proof of this; moreover, one of Iran's chief demands was the unfreezing of assets held in American banks and Carter didn't agree to this until AFTER the election.
The last October surprise that kill the Repub’s chances was the economic meltdown that occurred in 2008.
Nobody knows to this day (or is willing to admit) what happened to spark the trouble that caused the failure at that particular time.
It cost McCain the presidency as he was ahead in the polls at that time.
Remember when the story broke about W’s old DWI..just before the election. Everyone her on FR was very demoralized, dispirited..it was effective..
Honestly, Romney is so clean in terms of his personal and professional life that any "surprise" is unlikely to be a slam dunk.
It would most likely be a tax form that showed, not malfeasance, but huge income with smart deductions, or an email in which he authorizes the layoffs of employees at a managed company or some such. Class warfare stuff.
