There is no doubt in my mind that Sandusky was quietly blacklisted by Joe Paterno.

I suppose the laws differ from state to state. Where I live, you see a crime, you report it. There’s no other option available unless, if caught. you beome an accessory or “failure to report a crime” or some such.

The chain of command included the police:

When McQueary was asked why he didn’t go to the police, he “referenced Schultz’s position as a vice president at the university who had overseen the campus police:” “I thought I was talking to the head of the police, to be frank with you…In my mind it was like speaking to a (district attorney). It was someone who police reported to and would know what to do with it.” [Centre Daily Times wire service, modified 11:00 AM, 16 Dec. 2011]

Der...

Based upon the fact that a successful football coach working as an assistant to a man less than ten years removed from induction into the CFHOF retired from the game and never went on to coach another college (or professional) team.

This is analogous to saying “You cannot tell the police that a man raped you, he has a family!” My, how things do not change!

nope, just set-up a Penn State authorized hunting ground well stocked with young boys. Where was your Saint Joe on that?

It is clear that Paterno knew about Sandusky's perversion and did nothing. In my book that makes him (paterno) a scumbag of the lowest order.

I don't care what he meant to football. If even one young boy was sexually assaulted after he knew about Sandusky then he can rot in hell. I just wish they pulled the statue down before the creep died.

IMO, It's on the person who actually WITNESSED the event to go above their superiors heads once they have kicked it to the curb.

Also..

For criminal offenses as severe as child molestation I, had I been the coach of PedState, would go to the top of the food chain immediately, which, in this case, happens to be the campus police...but that’s just me.

Do you know who Gary Schultz is? Gary Schultz is the top dog that ran the University Park police. Paterno set up a meeting between him and the witness.

While it’s possible that I am misunderstanding you FRiend, I am willing to bet that it’s the other way around. If you take a quick glance at my comments, I believe you’ll discover that we’re generally in agreement with each other.

The university didn’t do due, or even decent, diligence.

. . . When you are the head of an organization, the buck better stop with you, or everyone goes down.

Certainly you are correct.
. . . Seriously, it’s not that anyone is becoming sanctimonious.
You haven’t even touched my main point. 88 members of the faculty of a major university can publicly call for “sentence first, trial afterward” for the students who are members of one of its athletic teams - when they are accused of an airtight conspiracy to cover up a blatant crime, by one person of dubious veracity, and when that “witness” was systematically fed information as to which members of the group had alibis and which did not, in order to avoid the inconvenience of having to pick the alleged perpetrators from among a group of people who were known to be innocent. Which, it was obvious, the “witness” had no ability to do.

A huge swath of the university’s faculty disgraces itself by manifesting extreme prejudice against that group of students, and organizing student-body demonstrations against them, in a blatant witch hunt - and the only result is the firing of the team’s coach and the disbanding of the team. The faculty members suffer not so much as a reprimand.

It is profoundly disgraceful that a football coach, or any other faculty member, should be guilty of acting on pedophilia. Those who knew about it had a bounden duty to protect children, no less than any other adult does. Full Stop. New Paragraph.

Exactly how much less of a duty does a member of the teaching faculty have to uphold a decent respect for truth, facts, and logic when students are being threatened with arbitrary arrest and a kangaroo court “trial”???

88 members of the faculty not only did not lead in reserving judgement in favor of waiting for the evidence, they rushed to the head of the gathering lynch mob, deliberately placing their names and their professorial prestige on the side of a rush to judgement when the facts scarcely even warranted sustained suspicion, and a full investigation led to a declaration that the alleged crime had never occurred.

Can an entire university be held to absolute, “it happened on his watch” accountability for what was done in secret to too many, but still a only a few, boys and covered up at the highest level - and another university be absolutely absolved for what was deliberately and openly done by a large swath of the faculty to compromise the future of 20 students - and no censure administered? That seems to be the position we are hearing taken by this accreditation committee.

Given the biblical injunction against harming children, I accept that the boys absolutely deserved far better from PSU. Everyone but a pedophile does. But the members of the Duke Lacrosse Team are people, too. And having scores of teachers openly cheerleading for evil without remorse and without even censure has to count for something in the comparison of the two cases. But we are told that the latter case is one for the three monkies seeing, hearing, and saying nothing.

All I can do is to reiterate from an earlier post:

Paterno admitted, prior to his death, that HE didn’t do enough and should have done more. I heard him say it. What other proof do you need?”

It matters not that he used the phrase, “in hindsight”. He knew, beforehand, that Sundusky was molesting children and let it continue for 14 years.

Some people are still making excuses for O.J. and proclaiming his innocence in both the murders and the armed robbery conviction.

No wonder they can’t see the forest for those dang trees that keep getting in the way. :-)

End of discussion and have a nice day. :-)

He was referring to do more regarding the McQueary situation. No, I don’t blame him for not doing more there. He didn’t have to do more. He wasn’t a witness. I, along with 95% of all people wouldn’t have done any more than what they did.

He DID NOT know Sandusky was molesting children and let it continue for 14 years. That is complete and total horse shit. If you have evidence of this, show it to me. You are just spouting the same lies the media is feeding you.

Please post your evidence or your correction.

Not talking about the NCAA. I am referring to accreditation. Withdrawing it ruins the degrees of all the other students who had nothing to do with it.

I have no idea how this applies to my comment re. Accreditation.
