This is the worst vanity post I’ve read here on FR and I have been here for a while.
Clean up in isle 6 times 3...
i was raised by a very poor, single mom. She never took a dime of gov’t money. We were homeless for a time. I even ate food out of dumpsters for a time.
But she took every job that would have her, sometimes three at a time. She worked her knuckles to the bone to get me through highschool (graduated with honors) and into college.
And the whole time, she was nursing an old back injury and sick with untreated autoimmune diseases. She’s work until she dropped, then drag herself back to work again.
And my husband and I started off dirt poor. We busted out butts to get out of it and are now comfortably middle class.
Most people start out poor. You have to build from somewhere. Sometimes people have it good, then get slammed to the ground and have to start over.
No. I don’t ‘feel disgusted’ by the poor. I’m cheering them on. I want them to grow, learn, work and succeed.
May I offer A Modest Proposal?
I think you are confusing “the poor” with the people who expect to have everything they need and want paid for by someone else. One has nothing to do with the other.
As my Late Mother used to say, “You help people that CAN'T help themselves, not people who WON'T help themselves”. My Dad was a bit more concise, he always said “Nobody owes you a living”.
My Family has been poor, graduated to what people would call Middle Class and up and down with all points in between. I grew up eating Mayonnaise Sandwiches simply because that is what my Mother ate during the Depression.
When people in this Country lose sight of the fact they are living in the Greatest Nation to ever exist on God's green Earth, they turn their attention to the success of others and feel deprived.
There is no appreciation for the gift they have been given. The poorest person in America is better off than 90% of the people living on this Globe.
This is why an Marxist ideologue like Obama was able to win the Presidency by 10 Million Votes over his Republican rival. Spoiled Children become Greedy Adults.
“Poor” is a relative term. How much would someone pay for reason and senses, yet they are given without price.
The poor are sometimes poor for no fault of their own.....disability, lack of employment, lack of intelligence, mental health issues are all real problems people face....hopefully you will never face them....
Your issue is with the able bodies moochers living off the system....
You did a piss poor job delineating between the two.... A real piss poor job....
The vast, vast majority are poor by choice.
Congratulations. You’ve just invited Karma into your home and your life. Good luck
You seem to be blessed to have so many poor around you; for through those you are tested and hopefully found worthy one day.
Blame LBJ’s “Great Society”. When the guvmint made it more profitable for poor women to kick out kid after kid and have the taxpayers pay for them instead of the fathers, it was the beginning of the welfare state we know now.
Then there's the underclass, the class of people who are content to live off charity and crime, have no interest in bettering themselves, or doing anything that look like work. They can starve for all I care, and the world would be better off.
I was taught not to feel sorry for myself so no.
DO you think I like being poor? Listen you dip *hit, I busted my butt for many years, got hurt on a military deployment, now live on a pittance of retirement (less than 24k/yr of which I pay little less than 5k for medical insurance). Funny though, once a white man is over the age of 50, no one will hire. I do not take handouts from the government, yes I do qualify but I flat out refuse.
Oh...BTW...not all of us poor people are fat.KMA
If we were at full employment and jobs were plentiful, you’re attitude would still be wrong but at least understandable.
But we are at almost 25% unemployment. You really think 1 in 4 people want to mooch off the system instead of have a decent job? Right now there aren’t jobs and so your attitude is completely contemptable.
What you really need to do is go to an onliine bible site, like blueletterbible.com and do a word search on “poor and needy” and just “poor”. Contrast God’s attitude towards the poor with your own, and you will begin to understand just how far off base you really are.
You all should note that sagar said the “so called” poor. I agree with him/her that the poorest Americans are richer than most of the rest of the world.
I believe he is meaning the ones taking advantage of the system and therefore bringing the rest of us (who used to be middle class) down to their level. that ticks me off.
I do not hold anything against anyone who is truly unable to work, but unfortunately, there seem to be more people who are unwilling to work rather than unable to these days.
Deut. 15:11: There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need. (NLT)
God doesn’t seem to have different rules for “the poor” and “the needy”, and “I am commanding you to share freely” doesn’t have a lot of wiggle room in it. God knows the difference - I’ll do my part and let Him sort ‘em out.
Well, I was going to say something, but FReeepers pretty much have things covered.
God cares about the poor. Get a concordance and look up the references to the word “poor”. It’s a sobering experience. Or read the book of Amos in the Old Testament.
That’s not to excuse laziness or other bad character traits, but, as someone mentioned, being overly critical of the poor is definitely painting with way too broad of a brush.
By the way, very proud of most FReepers right now.
