I used to, until I worked in “the hood” for a bit. At least in this neck of the woods the majority have mooching off of the system down to a science.

How exactly do you equate being poor with being a scum sucking parasite?

There are plenty of poor people with good values, many better than your own.

Your attitude is deranged

You need to see a mental health professional, stat.

The vast majority of the poor are in a transition and get things back together. only a small percentage of the poor are habitually poor.

There is something seriously damaged, both with your ability to accurately perceive the world you live in, and your capacity to empathize.

It depends on their reason for being poor. Some people have mental problem, and have a diminished capacity to effectively work. Others are young children who have no real choice about where or how they live, and absolutely have a tougher time pulling themselves up from poverty than most.

Then there are the "poor" who live their lives under the poverty line, but ask nothing from anyone for their existence..

The ones I have a hard time feeling sorry for are the ones who are poor because of bad decisions on their part, and thus demand sustenance from the rest of us. Or even worse, and I know a couple of these people, those who actually, on purpose, game the system by DOING, purposely, the wrong thing in order to qualify for more government aid. Especially those women who have babies, on purpose, for the express purpose of getting mo' money from the Gov. That is detestable on many levels.

When I see a poor person, I am filled with disgust.

If you are qualified to see into each individual's heart in order to know their true motivations and circumstances, then perhaps you are entitled to your contempt. But from what I recall, the only human who ever had that gift looked on them with compassion. He reserved his contempt for the Pharisees, those who considered themselves to be oh, so much more righteous than others. I have to watch my own heart closely to keep from slipping into that mindset.

Depends on the poor person. There have been times in my life I didn’t have much, and I wasn’t a “scum-sucking parasite”. I’ve got a friend who has been ranching for 30 years. He isn’t rolling in dough, and he works his tail off and has for a long time.

Now, the fat chick buying deserts with her food stamps, or the 4’11”, 300 lb woman using Medicaid to pay for her back pain...yeah, I have contempt for them. There are a lot of wealthy Hollywood liberals that I despise as well.

There are different “poor.”

There are the ones that expect a hand out and get ticked if they don’t get theirs. They have not problem taking and the families have been doing so for generations. I feel no compassion for them.

Then there are the poor, more of these people now with many being new to the state of existence, that are struggling and really trying to make a go of it with everything they have—body, mind and soul. There is no net for them, or they are too proud to ask. They are living from paycheck to paycheck, if they have one, trying to save, but unable to do so due to loss of pay, job, and/or health. They get up so far, only to be kicked back down, with the gov’t doing much of the kicking either directly or indirectly—higher taxes, higher bills, concern about the future. For these people, if I was extremely wealthy, I would find them and give them as much help as possible.

no - I don't feel sorry for the poor and I don't envy the rich. I hold those who get government assistance in contempt. but not all the poor are parasites (although the government is doing its best to make them so with food stamp ads)

I feel much the same as you do...however, the more that you deal with them, the more that you realize that the vast majority of the truly poor are “not very smart”. I realize that many, if not most, are laggards...but there is a large percentage that just don’t have the ability to do much of anything.

It will be interesting to see what your REAL status is when you stand poor, blind, and naked and without your wallet, before the creator of the universe, in judgment.

If having poor people is such a bother to you, how will you answer when G-d himself asks why you didn’t bother to set up an economic system according to HIS precepts which allows the poor to make a decent living??

I've been rich and I've been poor. And when I was poor, my feet were more firmly planted on the ground.

Young man (I say young because an older, wiser man would not make such stupid comments as yours), you need to ask THE Lord about poverty and wealth!

Until you do, no amount of money can remove your poverty of spirit!

God bless you...feel free to Freepmail me.

You are teetering on the razor's edge!

Don't make that eternal mistake...eternal poverty is much worse than a lack of cash!

Do you think Freepers are rich?

For me, I try to avoid feeling sorry for anyone; it robs them of their dignity.

I do however feel compassion for people who have a tough row to hoe, how could you not? and if they face their troubles with a good attitude I do admire them for it.

Many people find themselves in financial trouble at some point in their lives maybe to the point that you could call them poor. It may happen to you. Try to go through it with some grace, keep your eyes on God, and if some numbskull looks at you with contempt, try not to judge him too harshly. He’s young.

“Poor” and “sucking the govteat” are not necessarily the same thing.

I am poor, and I take nothing from the gov. People who live of govteat are disgusting, whether they live on HUD/ACFD/ etc or corporate and ag bailouts/giveouts/name de jour of money given to huge corporations.
