Why Does Anyone Take A Child Under The Age Of 13 To A Midnight Movie? [Vanity]
7/22/12 | self

Out of all of this horrible tragedy - I cannot help but ask myself the question.

The girl who was killed was 6 and there was a couple with 2 children aged 4 and under [thank God they were spared].

Not only was it past the childrens' bedtimes, but the content of the movie was wholly inappropriate for their ages.

If the mother of the 6 year-old had not taken her, she would still be alive. Just sayin' ...

LOL....it’s getting so absurd...ya know...if some consortium in Hollywood, hadn’t made this film, no one would have been in the theater that particular moment watching it....A-N-D if no one had built the theater, or the roads to get there....who knows?...heaven help us all.

For Pete's sake.....NO CHILD should be up at that time of night......it's almost child abuse. When did we all lose our common sense???

If the parents are working two jobs EACH, as you said, then they shouldn't be spending money on such CRAP.

An infant is going to cry.

And the fact is most parents today won't discipline their child.

Oh, please. I took one of my babies to a movie once. She did not let out a peep. I kept her ears covered and she slept through the whole movie. If she hadn’t, I would have taken her out.

Maybe she had her take an extra nap that day or slept in later or knew her daughter would fall asleep at some point and really it doesn’t matter now, does it? She’s dead. And not from lack of sleep.

This movie is not appropriate to be taking such a young child to see.

To me.. there are so few minutes with your children, sometimes you need to do something special to re- enforce the bond. It is like the few times when it was ice cream before dinner, loaded with sugar. Borrowing them a day from government internment school and taking a day trip. Things like that are the most memorable. (not that I could stay awake past midnight).

Give me a break! Because YOUR baby happened to be quiet doesn’t mean that is the norm-it isn’t.

If people can’t afford a babysitter, I don’t know how they can afford to have children.

My parents were very careful about what I saw. I remember screaming and crying at a matinee when an animal got killed. My mother explained that it didn’t really happen, but at age six I couldn’t understand. I think it is selfish and abusive to take little kids to a scary movie at any hour.
And to answer a previous comment from someone, yes, I kind of do think that little children should be in bed way before midnight. Everyone on FR is always saying that they want family values and a return to the mores of “Our Town” and now that an issue comes up, suddenly it’s “how dare you suggest that first graders shouldnt be out at midnight”.
Make up your minds, please, about what planet you want to be on.

I agree. It’s slovenly behavior. I hate seeing children being treated like luggage that has to be dragged around.

Same here. I home schooled my son. Plus he was usually up doing a sport class and we didn’t get home till after 10pm 3 times a week. He was up late and slept in.

I also would have taken him to see this movie when he was say 8 or 9 years old. He loved movies like this.

And if anyone has a problem with that, sorry. He is now a well adjusted, happy, productive young man.

Taking your kid to the movies is not anyone’s business but your own.

The well being of little children in one’s community is everyone’s business.

This movie would have been appropriate for my son to see when he was young.

If you don’t want to take your kid, fine..don’t.
But it is none of your business what I would have let my son see or how late he stayed up.

I have great memories of my dad, mom, sis and I going to the local drive in to watch some great B horror and science fiction flicks. Not to mention staying up late to watch Night Gallery curled up in the covers with my sister. Fun times.
