Which is why you don’t allow irrational emotion to drive what ought to be done.

1. Fire everyone who knew about this and did nothing.
2. Prosecute everyone who knew about this and did nothing. People with more power bear more responsibility and need harsher penalties.

3. After their trials begin their immediate jail sentences.
4. Suspend any sports programs affected by this for 1 year, in order to hire suitable, sound replacements and begin rebuilding the teams around decent coaches and support staff. Forcing them to take a year off allows them to get vet people more thoroughly without worrying about just getting anyone in because they need to get ready quickly for competition.

You don’t kill off all sports because that doesn’t hurt the perverts, it hurts hundreds of kids across however many years you kill off sports. The goal is to punish those that actually deserve the punishing.

5. You revamp rules and procedures for coaches and support staff for being around kids.

6. It might be a good thing for the athletic programs to only focus on their college athletes rather than having extra, unnecessary special programs for younger pre college students. Restrict their athletic programs only to their adult college athletes to prevent things like this from occurring again.

The fans are the real ones who enabled this, and they are the ones who deserve the punishment. Total loss of perspective on how insignificant sports are.

Ok just have a four year phase out of ALL sports.

Sorry but it has to be all of them. From the women’s rowing on up.

A four year phase out keeps new kids from being penalized and allows those in to finish. In the alternative allow those who transfer out of penn state to not affect the team caps of the recieving schools. this also includes screening players to ensure they were not active participants in the sandusky homosexual scandal.

I still the the shut it ALL down period is the best way to go. 50 years allows two generations to pass.

40 the same.

no less then 20 years to put a knife in how serious this is to be taken and an example to be set in all schools and in all sports. There is no place for such deviancy in society.

Oh gimme a break. Those kids can go to some other school. I’m punishing the school, not the kids.

Sorry, can't agree.

What I would like to see come out of this is the realization that all the high-flown talk about "leadership" and "character" in big time college sports is 100%, grade A, industrial strength bulls--t.

It's all about the money. Nothing more than that.

Everybody praised Paterno as the epitome of a leader and a builder of character, but it turns out his own character was a sick joke.
