The only cats we ever shoot are the ones that come on the property and take a run at the chickens or fight with our barn cats. Stray dogs get even less tolerance because they LOVE to chase the cattle. The problem is it seems like a lot of people abandon their pets in the country thinking that someone will take them in or else maybe that nature is some Utopia for domestic critters. It isn’t. I’m sure for every cat we’ve ever shot that there’s a dozen or more the coyotes, foxes, cougars, and now wolves get to first.

I have similar problem, but that's still not a reason to make such a comment about a companion animal.

We usually take them in, spay/neuter and feed them. We have no problems when it comes to cats and the free range poultry. The chickens and ducks are able to defend themselves against felines.

Do try and shoot the feral cats neatly. Elon College used to buy the carcasses for use in their biology class specimen business. If they are still doing that, it could make a worthwhile supplement to homestead income.

Feral cats ought to be terminated on sight because they eat ground-nesting birds like quail and pheasant that belong on my dinner table. My cat allergy/antipathy may have a solid scientific basis, but it has not kept me ... sadly ... from marriage to several "cat women," who were each crazy.
