I imagine a lot of Christians are going to get upset about the idea of a cross being used this way, but the truth of the matter is, it was the standard Roman method of execution.
In this case, I am not going to say it was inappropriate. This person deserved all the suffering he received before he was cast into the pit.
But it was minus his head, so it's OK.

Citizens in Rome who murdered and such were usually strangled or or had their throats cut.
Except that the Romans crucified non-Romans while they were alive.
