I routinely save entire web pages to file, running XP. I do not use Twitter. Today, in trying to open some of these filed pages stored on disk, they have all disappeared and each has been replaced by several dozen Twitter icons and empty folders, with the information apparently lost. I have no idea how this happened.
How do I retrieve my files? Thanks.
what you mean by “twitter icons”? Are you using Firefox?

Yes. Does that make a difference?
Did you try using an Open With command and trying different options
well i don’t know. strange issue. on a side note what kind of an airdale are you? nose picker, tin bender? :-)
You might also use the search tool on XP. That will work best if the files haven’t actually been deleted and have just been moved or can’t be seen by you for some reason. You might also check your recycle bin just in case the files were deleted but haven’t been emptied from the bin.
Sounds like a file association issue. Try right clicking one of the files and opening it with firefox.
OOps I should looked better the first time. By your leave sir. :-)
That’s good stuff. Thanks for posting.
After that, I then quote a great modern day philosopher and tell them you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need.
If you don’t already use it, try running this to see if your have some malware from Twitter or somewhere else:

I know this does not help after the fact but a thumbdrive only cost a few dollars. stick it in the usb port every once in awhile and save your files.
also a good rule to follow is this. use 2 computers 1 that goes on the internet at 1 that never does. keep important work in the offline computer. if you need to get something from internet use of thumb drive and then scan it first. if the online computer gets something inside it you can just wipe out the hard drive and start over
That’s actually a good idea. I have an XP and a Win7. The XP could be my off internet computer, but then how do I update it? Microsoft is supporting XP for another couple of years. It updates every Wednesday.

Russian nukie-boat tormentor.
I save everything to an external hard drive. In this case, the same error is also on the external drive.
“The XP could be my off internet computer, but then how do I update it?”
Keep it off the Internet, and you won’t have to update it.
