I knew Miss Lawrence was both hot and tough when I saw her in _Winter’s Bone_. If you have not seen it, do.
As Ree Dolly, her courage, toughness and integrity blazed through. At the end of that movie, I nearly cried that I could not save Ree from the pains of her victories. And I am a hard, cynical old bastard who hasn’t cried at a movie since I was 7 years old and they killed Ol’ Yeller.
I know acting ain’t real, but I hope that Lawrence was calling on her own depths in that portrayal rather than just technique. If so, she is going to be legendary.
I had put off watching "Winter's Bone" for reasons I can't remember (it listed Number one in our Netflix Suggestions que for a good many weeks) I finally did watch it because my daughter pointed out the star was the girl from the "Hunger Games". My wife wants me to go watch Hunger Games and I am not much of a Movie-Goer anymore preferring instead to watch at home with better sound and an ability to pause the show and more importantly I can tell everyone in my theater to shut up and leave if they think it necessary to talk on their cell phones during the movie. So I figured I could save myself some grief and some money if the young lady wasn't a good actor in "Winter's Bone."
I not only loved the movie, I rated it 5 stars and am looking for a used copy to add to my DVD collection. I live in an area that is plagued with the drug trade that is presented in the movie. I actually had one tenant who was dealing crystal and pills right on her front porch almost like a drive through. Had to go through the local sheriff so I could protect myself from the drug seizure laws.
People go missing in the area all the time and though no one knows anything everybody knows what happened.
Scary.... very scary!
