I didn’t watch the remake of “True Grit.” Actually, it was all I could do to watch the original. As a “swan song” for the Duke, it sucked. Not one of his better movies. IMHO. For what it’s worth...
Not the kind of thing I enjoy, even with John Wayne. I read the book in junior high school, but I didn’t like it.
However, his voice is distinctive, isn't it?
As for True Grit, the book was excellent. Of the two movie versions, the Coen Brothers' version is much more true to the book and is a good movie, in my opinion. The version with John Wayne was a comic book in cinema form (although God Bless John Wayne), in my opinion, compared to the Coen Brothers version. I think Glen Campbell's hair throughout the movie said it all. Or the fact that the Arkansas/Indiana Territory was shot in the Rocky Mountains for the John Wayne/Glen Campbell version.
