"In a hypothetical 2012 matchup, Mitt Romney now leads President Obama 47% to 45%. If Rick Santorum is the Republican nominee, the president leads 47% to 44%."

"Overall, 46% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president's job performance. Fifty-three percent (53%) at least somewhat disapprove."

Of course both Romney and Santorum lead Obama in today’s Rasmussen poll. I find it odd that they don’t show how either Gingrich or Paul do without paying.

You’re mistaken. It’s JFK you’re thinking about. But interestingly enough, he was doing horribly in the polls that year. If he had a bubbletop on his convertible during that fateful day, he would have been creamed at the polls by Goldwater or Nixon that upcoming November.
