It inspired me to join the navy.

My husband and I went to see that movie about 4 days after opening day. We went on a weeknight and were the only ones in the movie room where this film was showing. When the time came and went for the movie to start, and nothing happened, my husband went to report it and was told, with an apology, that we were the first ones to come to see this movie since it opened at that theater, so they forgot that someone was actually there to see the movie, which was why the movie hadn’t started on time.

I can think of many. The first one come to mind,A Knight's Tale. It's a story about a peasant who fakes his identity to become a knight so he can joust in knight competition during Medieval times.

The moral of this story is no matter who you are you can be anything if you work hard enough at it.

• The Girl Can[t Help It (1956)--A has-been Prohibition-era gangster seeks to regain notoriety by hiring a washed-up theatrical agent (Tom Ewell) to turn his niece (Jayne Mansfield) into a rock star

• My Latvia (1955)--a documentary that chronicles the Soviet takeover of Latvia

• The Ten Commandments (1923)--The film starts with the story of Moses and how he led the Children of Israel out of Egypt. The rest of the film tells the "modern story" of a rebellious couple who seek to break every one of the Ten Commandments.

• The Wind (1928)--A drama that takes place on a ranch where the wind is always blowing (no, it's not on Capitol Hill)

• Around the World in 80 Days (1956) The Jules Verne classic novel brought to the screen. I saw this in the Carthay Circle Theater in Los Angeles in 1958.

• Land of the Pharaohs (1955)--Khufu, king of Egypt (Jack Hawkins) enlists the aid of Vashtar (James R. Justice), an engineer, to build a huge tomb as his wife (Joan Collins) schemes to do him in and take over his kingdom. Although it was released in cinemascope, I first saw a 16mm version of this film in our living room in 1960. In 2000, I saw it again at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood.

• Oklahoma! (1955) This spectacular film version of the Rogers/Hammerstein stage musical represented an attempt by the Hollywood moguls to lure people away from the boob tube and back into the theaters. I first saw it at a drive-in theater in the South Gate, Calif. area in early 1957.
