However show bosses have produced a new contract in which future runners-up, including Sanchez, will receive between $30,000 (£19,000) to $60,000 (£38,000) in advances for singles or EP records.

Less money for the runner-up might give them the freedom to sign other promising singers from the Top 13. I don't know--that's a total guess.

Well, they no longer give the runner up a contract. I wonder if that means the runner up is allowed to sign up with some other label, earlier than in the past.
