Southwest Airlines commercial

Posted on 09/11/2011 3:16:38 PM PDT by djf

I'm watching the Seahawks getting plucked and notice that Southwest Airlines keeps running this commercial. It starts off saying something like "Ten years on..." yada yada, shows airline people standing around with their hats off, and ends with "we salute the American spirit"

Has this struck anybody else as being somewhat cheesy commercializing on a tragic event? Maybe it's just me...

What's next? Hallmark cards for 9/11?

I pretty muchthought the same thing when I saw a Chevy commercial earlier today.
Guy with a wife takes an old p.u. in to the shop.
Mechanic says man you need a new one cause this will take more to fix than it is worth.
Guy looks in the glove box and finds a photo of his dad next to his truck.
Guy gives the mechanic a check and says just fix it.
Then it goes Chevy remembers blah blayh.
Using tragedy for commercial gain I saw it.

Well, that one has been out for a while and doesn’t specifically mention anything about 9/11.

But the Southwest commercial most definitely is a reference to 9/11.

Besides, it’s a Chevy!
I’d do the same!!

;-)

And then Budweiser Clysdale horse commericial.

maybe though it is just a company’s way of trying to remember and still get their product mentioned.

ads do cost a lot of money

i see both sides

Haven’t seen the ad.
But one reason I’ve liked Southwest, is because its crew is patriotic. They always publicly recognize military onboard. Last time I flew Southwest, after the Capt. finished his welcome speech, he said “God bless America”. No explanation.

So, I give them latitude.

You mean the Budweiser that’s now owned by Europeans? That Budweiser??

I haven’t seen that one, which is probably a good thing!

Is that one on again? If I recall correctly..it was only shown once, because they did not want to make a profit out of the tragedy..but they did want to salute those who were lost.

I see it no different than fire and police departments around the country marking the occasion.

I had no problem with the SW commercial. After all, the day did revolve around airplanes. It can’t be any cheesier than Lockheed Martin commercials saluting the troops when they have cost overruns and delays that rip-off the taxpayer.

The Budweiser Clydesdales in NY commercial makes me cry every time.

Well, I agree about Southwest and their patriotism - I was actually on a flight once where they held iy before takeoff waiting for a guy in the service who was a bit late.

I guess I’m just kind of wondering what it will be like after another ten years. What will they say/do fifty years from now?

People are people, I suppose, and we are different enough that we act in different ways...

“Hallmark cards for 9/11?”

Hmm. That _might_ not be a bad thing

What would your design be?

One nice thing about Southwest, you can take your wife on a trip. “Bags fly free”.

Your first mistake was tuning into the Seahawks game.

Your next mistake was failing to mute the commercial.

Finally, you would not have any of these problems if you were watching the Red Zone Channel....

It’s pretty sad for a car company with the only thing that they can market is how good it was in the past. While Chevy is crap nowadays..

Any company that honors the day honors America. I don’t care what the motives are: the public honoring of our nation and those who gave all is of sufficient rarity that we should take it wherever we find it.

Lol!

Well, if you are married now, or you ever get married, you realize you just etched your opinion in stone!

It could very well return to haunt you at any time! When you least expect it!
