I’m going to have to start carrying my pepper spray mace whenever I’m out walking. Can’t handle a gun; would shoot myself in the feet, even with taking a class and target practice. Does anyone know if pepper spray will affect dogs like it does humans?

It should work on dogs as well as humans.

When a pit snaps it needs significant negative persuasion to stop. Aim for the the eyes, snout, mouth, and ears. In that order. Should work...

Get bear spray. It’ll stop a charging bear. It’ll do havoc with anything smaller. It’s expensive, like around $30 but worth it.

Try http://www.sportmansguide.com and the ID# is WX2-54475, Guard Alaska @$29.97 per can. If bear spray is supposed to stop bears, I suppose it`ll stop vicious dogs.

From my own experience, Twinkie, pepper spray is not a good deterrent on dogs. A large dog was going after my cocker. I sprayed him all over his body and he just looked at me and kept running towards my pooch. My dog hid under a car (smart boy!)and the big dog finally gave up the chase. After about one minute the bad dog began rolling around in the grass trying to get the spray off him but then got up and wandered away.
My advice is to get bear spray. That stuff is strong enough to kill a human if he has respiratory problems. It will concentrate a dogs mind away from his prey long enough to get pooch (or yourself) out of there.

I've used this stuff when bicycling and being chased by a dog.
