Right now we’re trying to find that balance.
Hubby deploys in a month, so that gives us a year to save and put off any major decisions.
The way we see it, if we sacrifice for just 7 more years, my husband will never have to work again. He’ll only be 48. That would put us in a financially secure position where we could live as we do now. (No trips, no nice clothes, no new cars, beans and rice)
Not where we want to end up, but it would sure be nice to have a choice. He says that he never wants to stop working and I’m all for that, but I want him to have a *choice* to work, not “have to”. I think that it would be really nice if all of our living expenses were paid and his paycheck could go to traveling, classic cars and fun.
So we’ll let our hair down a little (a couple of dinners out a month, some clothes for me, nicer food at home, etc) but we still want to be careful for awhile longer.
Oh, and it IS possible to enjoy life without spending a lot of money. We like a booklet called “Living Well on Practically Nothing” by a guy named Edward H. Romney; and it’s serious about the “practically nothing” part. (He’s no kin to Mitt that I know of in case you’re not a Mitt fan.)
Your plan sounds good and worthwhile to pursue.

I said that I was able to work the plan without making a purchase. I have bought a few copies of “The Total Money Makeover” when he has his $10 sales, they have made great gifts.
