And if it’s really the end, then a cigarette or a fine Cuban cigar would not be out of line either.

Thank God there weren't earthquakes and meteors and geomagnetic field inversions and solar flares and ice ages and interglacials in the past or somebody might have gotten hurt.

We are all going to die! In less than 125 years, every man, woman and child now living on Earth will be dead!!!

Woman and minorities will be hardest hit.

Overuse of resources without any thought to sustainability is dumb and we are just getting over the idea of purposeful degradation of the environment. Now we need to guard against an overreaction such as that proposed by the late Mr. Lee of Discovery channel fame.

“Some scientists have speculated that effects of humans - from hunting to climate change - are fueling another great mass extinction.”

This is what passes for science nowdays????

Some scientists (unnamed)....(probably Gore)
have speculated? - and we’re supposed to lose sleep over this?

It's definitely time to panic! That's it, I'm taking my motorhome and driving all around North America to see all the things I want to see before I die.

Why is it nowdays that any magazine... ooops, ‘scuse me, “Journal” that has the word “science” in its title I equate to “junk science”, because that’s about all I read that these rags publish? These people are becoming as transparent as cellophane with their phony pseudo science pronouncements of gloom and doom at every turn. Is there nothing at all that WON’T lead to total destruction of the earth and the human race? Jeez, ya can’t eat food, grow food, transport food, breathe or exist without “harming” some micro organism that is virtually essential to keeping the planet spinning and in orbit around the sun.

I’m getting really sick and tired of these crackpot theories and their proponents who don’t seem to have any use than to suck up government grant money.

I’d be worried more about a massive solar storm quite frankly.

Or a nuke missile launched from a fanatic, theocratic nation state that extols the "virtue" of suicide as a means of warfare.

Thanks decimon.
The findings suggest humans will live in a very different future if they drive animals to extinction, because the loss of each species can alter entire ecosystems.
That fiction has been an integral part of the drumbeat from the environazis for decades, and isn't supported by this or any other "study". The "extinction of whole taxa" has been used to scare kids since we were all in school. Well, except for you old geezers, you know who you are. ;')
