Thanks. The menu didn’t drop down the first time that I tried it. I have given no info as to where I live etc. But they have hidden crap in there.

I turned off ALL platform applications. I also disabled the public search option.

FB is insidious and I don't like it. However, it does allow me to keep track of certain relatives.

Doing anything on the internet is a risk.

That’s a tad extreme.

One just needs to understand and control their privacy settings and not go overboard with personal information.

Someone can find out more about me from the local county auditor’s or clerk of court’s site than Facebook.

If you don’t want to be traced or “known” on the internet you’ll have to completely unplug.

Trust me, I see it all the time. By people who should know better. One of my less informed coworkers said that it was no threat to her. The next morning I gave her a breifing on herself including:

- She was single (divorced for 2 years)
- Her home address
- A picture of her home
- The fact that she had a pool in her back yard
- She had a dog named blacky
- She had 2 children
- Her daughter was 13 and played on the city league sports team. Their practices were at the grass field at her local elementary school
- Her son was 11 and played on a city basketball team
- On thursdays, their practices were the same day / time
- She often did not get home till 6 pm
- Her two kids went to an after school care program
- Her home was unattended most Mondays - Fridays from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm
- Her trash was put on the curb on Wed
- Her mailbox was located by her drive way (in the picture)

Starting to sound scarry? Think there is enough information here for some sicko to go after one of her kids? What about someone going into her mailbox and getting other identity?

I gathered all these details in about 2 hrs of web searching. The briefing made her physically ill. But she did learn from the effort and closed down her accounts.

Sometimes that menu drops when you hover, sometimes it doesn’t.

I don’t trust FB, which is why I didn’t give my correct info, but I have made so many conservative connections and get such great info, I just can’t give it up.

"Facebook’s new location-based mobile service, Facebook Places, alerts Facebook friends to each other’s locations if both parties have a mobile phone that runs Facebook and has geolocation technology built in."

Nothing to worry about if you're just visiting facebook from your laptop or desktop computer.

I have 2 relatives on there that I found through genealogy. I think I have a total of 5 “friends”. I don’t spend a lot of time there. But I do get invitations from people that I’ve never heard of. Annoying.
