Who is your or has been your favorite Comedian?

Just a fun question, to see who your favorite comedian might be, past or current?

I would say mine is Flip Wilson, especially when he did *Geraldine*

Here is one of his funny ones he did with Joe Namath http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-355kMZxUN4

They just don't make *em* like this anymore!

My favorites, by media:

Radio: Fred Allen
Teevee: Ernie Kovaks
Movies: Harold Lloyd (I know, that's reaching back a long ways, but you just have to see him in Safety Last, Girl Shy or The Kid Brother to appreciate his unique talent.)
Recordings: (Tie) Shelley Berman/Mort Sahl
Live on stage: Wally Boag

No comics in the last 30 years can even compare to the masters of the craft from years past, IMHO.

Ditto Fry/Laurie. Soooo funny. I haven’t been able to watch HOUSE because I keep thinking of Bertie Wooster!

I really like Ron White. I’m sure he’ll croak from cirrhosis one of these days, but he’s funny as hell, and he really reminds me of one of my favorite uncles, who was an expert at that deadpan delivery. And I love his line about, “If you kill someone in Texas, we kill you back.”

Recently I’ve become a big Buster Keaton fan, too. His comedy is physical but very pointed, not broad. Some of his facial expressions are just priceless.

The Dean Martin Roasts never leave the habits, perceptions, racism, sexism, nationalism, or any area of someone on the panel. Gadgets never made the grade.

Presently, Brian Regan, who is also clean. I have been at his shows and people bring their children, and they also crack up. An absolute genius at playing dumb and bewildered.

Comedians of the past, distant and recent:

Sam Kinison (a shame, he was actually getting even funnier)

Alan King (you must see his first “Final Warning” show if possible, I can’t find it)
I am sure that he could have been a great actor had he worked at it. Simultaneously funny and serious, and both qualities magnified each other. Not done well before or since.

Rodney

Henny Youngman

Groucho

Jack Benny (never-equaled laughs/words ratio)

Rowan/Martin

Seinfeld (can get tiresome)

Steve Martin (early)

Steven Wright (admittedly, an acquired taste)

Mark Twain

Will Rogers

Albert Brooks isn't his real name. It's Albert Einstein. His brother, Bob Einstein a former writer and actor on “The Smothers Brothers “( Officer Judy ) is possibly better known by his stage name, Super Dave Osborn.

Red Skelton, W.C. Fields, Jack Benny, Jonathon Winters, Bill Cosby, Myron Cohen, Flip Wilson, Victor Borge. All hilarious and all did not exhibit today’s penchant for profanity.

Thanks for posting this. I need to think about funny people—something I haven’t done in a long time.

I probably have too many to list/remember, but here it goes:

Old school:
Johnny Carson (RIP) and the skits he did on the Tonight Show
Jack Benny (RIP)
Groucho (RIP) on You Bet your Life
Buddy Hackett (RIP)
Don Rickles
Jackie Mason
Jackie Gleason (RIP) and the Honeymooners
Don Knotts (RIP) as Barney Fife
Carol Burnett and the variety show ensemble

70-s:
George Carlin (RIP)
Rodney Dangerfield (RIP)

English:
Rowan Atkinson and pretty much the whole BlackAdder ensemble
Benny Hill (RIP)

SNL:
Gilda Radner (RIP)
Billy Crystal
Dana Carvey
Phil Hartman (RIP)
Dennis Miller
Chris Farley (RIP)
Norm MacDonald

Straight up comedians/80-s to modern day
Jake Johannsen
Brian Regan
Richard Jeni (RIP)

Cross Overs:
Larry Miller
Robin Williams

Ouch! I left them off my list—bad mistake! What a great cast, as was that of the Andy Griffith Show(especially Don Knotts)!

I saw a Rodney Dangerfield show on my honeymoon in 1997. I was watching The Tonight Show and Rodney mentioned where he’d be performing the following week, when I’d be on my honeymoon in that same city. I surprised my husband (a big fan) with tickets the night of the show. Rodney was hilarious! My ribs hurt from laughing so hard and the jokes never stopped— it was like we couldn’t catch our breath! Which was just like the rest of the honeymoon! Ha! My own poor attempt at humor! When I bring up our honeymoon the first thing the husband remembers— Rodney! But that’s ok, he was great.
