You have been here (FR) for a very long time and should know that this medium (the written word) demands clarity and conciseness when one attempts to convey an opinion or a comment.
We don't have the luxury of seeing one's facial expression nor one's vocal inflections when making a post or a reply .
The onus is on the poster to ensure that their words are not misinterpreted.
When multiple FReepers interpret your words as something other than what you had intended, it should tell you something.

I would LOVE to see one of these Oval Office addresses where the presidents desk is piled with papers, files, office supplies etc. It may sound silly, but I think it would go over well with the American people

Oh, geez. And if you've ever read anything of any length that I've written over that very long period of time, you'll see that I'm an exceedingly clear writer with seldom a misspelling or a poor edit. I don't write in all capital letters or in different colors.
All that said, though, Gerald Ford was, with the exception of Herbert Hoover, probably the lamest of all Republican presidents of the 20th century (though it's not entirely his fault, having been appointed as vice president to replace Agnew and had all the crap from Watergate to deal with). I guess he was okay as House Minority Leader, serving during the Republicans' time in the Congressional wilderness. But remember W.I.N.? Remember his support of the Equal Rights Amendment? Remember his support of abortion (though he opposed Roe v Wade)? Remember his urging all Americans to be vaccinated against swine flu? He expanded the federal involvement in education by establishing special education throughout the United States. He was an A-hole toward Israel. He failed to help South Vietnam when they were invaded by North Vietnam. He gave us John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court. He was such a weak presidential candidate that he opened the door for Jimmy Carter.
On the other hand, he did tell New York City, asking for a bailout, to drop dead.
