Rant/Plead/Enough Already!
email spam | 6/4/2010 | Jacquej

Posted on 06/04/2010 7:07:20 PM PDT by jacquej

OK, I am fed up.

My personal email has been flooded with multiple emails from the yahoo FR backup list, and I am sick of it.

Those of you sending stuff to the yahoo list, cut it out, right now!

Today, I have been bombarded, and have gone to my control preferences, sending all messages immediately to "junk", which is automatically deleted from my computer.

If yahoo e-mail lists are that easily co-opted, I think we all should go cancel the FR yahoo account.

Maybe I am having a bad night? Is anyone else getting flooded with unwanted, unimportant, redundant, multiple messages via their yahoo FR account?

Am I the only one, or just late to the party?

You’re just having a bad night ... :-)

But, yeah... someone is spamming over there... I guess you could ask the admins (here) to can the spammer over there on Yahoo ... :-)

Give a granny a break, or I will box your ears till they bleed!

Other than that, I am going to delete the FR yahoo group. If FR goes down, so be it. Got along without ya before I met ya, and will get along without ya now.

The snarky remarks are not appreciated, by the way.

Whoever is the owner of that Yahoo Group — should go into the group, delete those unwanted messages, and then delete the membershipship of whoever sent them.

Yes. Thanks, you beat me to it. The owner of the group is asleep at the wheel. I'll see if I can find the owner and ask to be made a moderator.

Alas, I had a bad experience on Facegroup, when someone posted a message in my name, that I didn’t send!

I don’t trust Facegroup any more, either. That false message caused a rift in the immediate family, for whatever it is worth.

The email address (laura_r_26@yahoo.com) of the owner/moderator of the group is not valid anymore. Just made a request to become a moderator and the message bounced. So I guess it is just time to unsubscribe.

Take a deep breath.
Go to the homepage of the Yahoo group.
Click on “Edit Membership”.
Under Step 2, check off the option “Special Notices - Receive only important email notices from the group moderator”.
Scroll down and click “Save Changes”.
Everything will be okay now.
Whenever FR seems to be down, you can go to the Yahoo group website and read messages there.

FWIW, on my Mac mail, I just set the rules to send the FR Yahoo emails straight to the trash. I can still go into the trash and read them if FR is down and I want to figure out what’s going on, but they’re not clogging up my in box.

Your personal e-mail address is only visible to group members if you send messages through the group. Otherwise, you’ll just receive messages posted to the group via forwarding, but the other group members won’t actually have your e-mail address.

Nope. Facebook is a security minefield. I’ve never joined, and do not anticipate ever joining. Information from FR management was posted to the Yahoo group last time I recall FR going down.

I think some evil forces are disrupting FR today

What do we do if it goes down?

I told JimRob for YEARS he needed to accept funding and some commericalization- Soros and Salon.com make MILLIONS

And this site is TOO IMPOORTANT not to have the best of hardware/security/backup

YOU DONT HAVE TO AUTOMATICALLY SELL OUT if you accept money- you should be RICH JimRob...

Why do you have your yahoo preferance set to individual emails? I keep most of mine set on web only or special notices.

You got scooped up in an email addy harvest - I did too. Does all this crap have an aim.com origin? Yeh - AOHell Instant Messenger, being employed as a spam faucet for whatever email addresses they can gather wherever they can gather them. Got nothing to do with the FR alternate and everything to do with Yahoo security.

I think you are right. The web just isn’t what it used to be.

Time to tighten up, and hunker down, if it isn’t too late for either.

Guess what. I never sent a message through the group. But, someone got it anyhow.

I don’t trust anyone, nohow, any more. Sorry that it has come to this. But, listen up, FRiends.

It is time to be very careful when out on the lone wild dangerous space we mistakenly think safe.
