Jeff Masters discusses the oil spill at length in his Sunday blog. He said that if 90L becomes strong and lingers off the Southeast U.S. coast for several days, a significant amount of oil could get pumped into the Loop Current late in the week. Meanwhile, light southeast to east winds are expected to blow over the northern Gulf of Mexico through Monday, resulting in potential oiling of Louisiana shorelines from the mouth of the Mississippi River westward 150 miles, according to the latest trajectory forecasts from NOAA.

He also said the oil threat to the keys is uncertain at this point, as the oil headed into the loop current is currently cut off from the main spill region.

We are already having media problems down here. They are agenda laden and its hard to talk sense into them.

My friend in Key West caught 40 dolphin Thursday and one of the tv types from out of town asked him "if he was going to eat those fish" these people do not have a clue.

Does anyone else have any info on past experiences with the loop current feeding the Stream? The only thing I recall is frequent red tides in the winter that get into the loop current, come around the Tortugas get into the stream and usually break up.

They are bad in the area of the Tortugas but rapidly dissipate.

I wonder if anyone knows if the same would be true of crude?
