MILAN David Beckham has torn his left Achilles' tendon and is at risk of missing the World Cup.
The former England captain injured himself in the closing minutes of AC Milan's 1-0 win over Chievo Verona on Sunday.
Club physician Jean Pierre Meersseman told Italy's Sky TV that Beckham will fly to Finland on Monday for surgery.

Ouch. That’s bad.
Finland? Don’t Italy and the UK have the finest socialist medical systems ever?
That really sucks for England. It will help the U.S (since we are in the same group), but that’s not the way you want to gain an advantage.
That’s a bad injury no matter the player’s age but obviously age will determine the duration of his rehab.
It’s possible he might not have even seen much action for England this year but the FA are under tremendous pressure to keep him in the spotlight because his star power is being used to lobby for a future World Cup in the UK.
Sorry to see him go out this way if it is in fact his last WC.
Youch. How long will that take to heal, and will it ever be 100% again (or even 70%)?
I'm not sure Beckham was even in line to make their World Cup team this year. His physical abilities have eroded.
They wont be as good on set pieces, but it will not decimate England as bad as one would think.
Beckham, for all his hoopla, was one of the slowest players on the pitch. This isn't going to help.
Although it will help us, it is tough to see him possibly end his career this way.
I’ve read that many of the European soccer players fly to the USA to get knee or ankle surgery.
Poor Achilles.
I'm pretty sure the Fins have completely socialized medicine as well. Having said that, you don't necessarily think "Finland" when you think of orthopedic surgery. Sweden has a robust sports medicine/orthopedic surgery program, but I've never heard anything about Finland. It's a bit odd.
Of course, if he went back to the UK, they'd be just as likely to cut off the foot and be done with it.
He was at risk of missing it anyway.
What a bad break, especially in a World Cup year.
“They wont be as good on set pieces, but it will not decimate England as bad as one would think.”
He is a very good player but isn’t the world-beater the media treats him as. Even without the injury his place wasn’t assured and even were he to make the team he very likely wouldn’t have started.
I thought he did that after his first Galaxy game.
Most guys are likely more interested in his wife than in him.
I think his wife is hot.
If she wants a real man she knows where to find me.
David has had a real severe problem with ED after she told him about the night she spent with me. JK
Now, now, he injured his Achilles tendon, not his naughty bits. I'm sure his wife doesn't make love to his feet.
Well, reasonably sure, anyway... :)
