The benefit of Gardasil is being debated for populations that are well screened by pap smears; thus in the US the death rate for cervical cancer is low (3/100,000 women) which is similar to the rate of serious side effects events reported for Gardasil (3.4/100,000 doses distributed). Critics suggest that Gardasil should be used primarily in populations at high risk for cervical cancerIf true, with numbers like that, particularly if they carry over to other forms of cancer, I see no reason the vaccine should be mandatory.
The real benefit will come from fewer repeat pap smears and fewer treatments with laser or freezing to remove pre-cancerous changes. We’ll see less genital warts and the cases of transmission at birth to the baby ought to go near zero.
Neither do I!
The very idea of any government entity mandating this vaccine is total anathema.
