Longest snake in captivity-world record set by Fluffy

Fluffy, a 24-foot python at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is measuring more than 24 feet long and weighed more than 300 pounds-which sets the new world record for the Longest snake in captivity. It was sold to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium by Oklahoma snake breeder and herpetologist Bob Clark.

Fluffy, a reticulated python, the Longest snake in captivity, was loaned to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in 2007, and they paid Clark $35,000 to put the python on permanent display.

"It isn’t even my snake anymore, but I’ve still got a relationship with it. I’m still proud,” he said.

The Columbus Dispatch reported the first season Fluffy, the Longest snake in captivity was at the zoo, attendance reached 1.53 million people, second highest on record.

Clark credits Fluffy’s genes and the amount he fed her for her enormous size. But unlike some larger snakes, "She’s easygoing, very tolerant of people touching her. Very tame. Just a good, friendly animal.”

Clark said Fluffy, the Longest snake in captivity was hatched in June 1992 and he was feeding her one large meal a week, usually a pig or rabbits, at the time she was sold.

Reticulated pythons have the ability to grow continuously throughout their lives if they are fed frequently, but can survive extended periods without eating, Clark said.

The previous Guinness world record holder for the Longest snake in captivity title died last year.

I heard about this snake, and what I heard is shown by the photos. The snake has no damn room to move around!

Here this famous zoo has a world class attraction and they have put it in cramped quarters where it has trouble even turning around. Fluffy should escape, track down Jack Hanna, and internally digest his cheap behind.

The snake in Indonesia (also a Reticulated Python) is definitely not 49 feet long. It is probably maybe around 25 at most. The longest snake (proven) was just over 33 feet ...also a Reticulated. A 49 foot snake would be prodigious in size ...like crocodiles, snakes tend to increase substantially in size with length (in the same way an 18 foot Nile crocodile is a sheer monster compared to a 12 foot croc, and a 12 footer is also a mnster compared to an 8 footer). A 49 foot python would have a girth and length that could probably give one a major shocker like you can't believe.

Now, are such sizes possible? I doubt it, but I am certain therr are snakes longer than 33 feet ...in particular the larger pythons (eg Reticulated as well as the African Rock) and maybe a lucky Anaconda or two. Howver, the one in the pic is not 49 feet. I doubt most people woild want to see a pic of one if it existed.

There must be something about exotic creatures being named fluffy. Years ago my sister named her pet Tarantula fluffy.

Really big snake - also looks like a Reticulated ( is it the same snake?). Reminds me of a Burmese called Baby that was between 18 to 22 feet long. The one in your pic also looks to be between 17 to 22 feet ... It can be hard to guestimate the length of a snake, and most people tend to err on the longer/larger size ( guess wannabe herpetologists and tall tale fishermen have something in common)

Now, a 49 foot snake - if kne existed - would be a veritable monster, capable of literally petrifying most people with fear due to its sheer size. it would literally rock your world in a manner you would rather not experience.

Do such snakes exist. My quick answer is no, and for various reasons ( such as such a huge size being unnecessary, since a 'simple' 18 feet is more than sufficient for most game. It is the same reason lionsand tigers are not the size of liger hybrids - too large a size can br a detriment)

However, in the same way human freaks exist ( where you can find a person who is 8 feet tall) I am certain somewhere in Asia or Africa is a python that could make the Devil tear up. There was a picture of an African rock python taken by a pilot some decades back that, while uncomfirmed, looks about 50 feet. Again, uncomfirmed, but that b&w picture taken from the air sure makes its rounds in the forums. In Kenya, there are stories of monster rock pythons in a certain area. Do I believe those stories? No, I do not. But the person who was telling me is a person I know well and of sound mind. However, while I think his mind fooled him into seeing an 18 foot python as a 60 foot leviathan ( as can happen to anyone who comes across a great serpent in the bush), I refused to go with him to the area where he saw the pythons ( more than one btw). It is my Lochness Monster caveat - I do not believe in the legend, but I sure ain't ( to borrow American English) about to go skinny dipping in thar there loch!

Anyways, do 50 foot pythons exist? Who knows - maybe there is a Shaquille Oneal python in some swamp or forest or plain ...but the picture of that Indonesian Reticulated is definitely not of such a snake. I'd be surprised if it was over 22 feet.

Nope. The first one had the snake in the small enclosure which Harry let free and it also had Fluffy, guarding the stone. hehe.
