First of all, you can't do a tactical magazine change with the Solo, while it's a piece of cake with the PPS. The Solo magazine release spring seems to take about 50 pounds of pressure on the tiny (but ambidextrous) button. I guess this was not high on their priority.

That might be a good thing for the 'button on the side' style mag release. Several times I have caught the LCP with its mag part way out because something bumped the button through my pocket. Of course the other style release that the PPS has is probably less likely to have that issue.

So Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis are in New Zealand, to start work on ‘The Hobbit’. It is really happening, labor troubles, financial troubles, Peter Jackson's illness, earthquakes, all notwithstanding. Virtually everybody who could return from LOTR has signed on, including Ian Holm as Old Bilbo (with Frodo in the framing story). Elrond (Hugo Weaving), however, is still only rumored.

Cool.

I watched Chariots of Fire the other night. I’d forgotten that Ian Holm was the trainer. His name was “Sam.”

Decades ago in 1965 television had a series on the War of the Roses, with excerpts from Shakespeare’s Henry VI Part 1, Henry VI Part 2, Henry VI Part 3, and Richard III. Holm played Richard III brilliantly (David Warner played VI soulfully). This was videotaped. In the late 1980’s they filmed it, and included Richard II, Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2, and Henry V. The Royal Shakespeare Company performed in both series.

I have some arugula that overwintered with the turnips....who knew?

Does 2 inches of snow merit the break, milk, eggs routine?

No, but if we do get a couple of inches, we move up to 2nd place in snowiest winters ever. A record I would prefer NOT to break!

There is severe damage to the Christchurch, NZ area. Nearly 100 killed, hundreds missing, and 80% of the city has no water.

Probably no range time this week, since Mom is almost ready to come home once the paperwork is done. However, I've grown to like the little Beretta .22 so much, I "adopted" its slightly-bigger brother, the 3032.

The operating principle is exactly the same, the main difference being the much beefier slide and barrel in .32ACP. Both carry and draw smoothly in the same DeSantis pocket holster.

And I even have my minimum ammo requirement of 1000 rounds already in the can, and properly labeled. Range report, including 115gr 9mm in the Kimber Solo, as time, weather, and my Mom's homecoming allow.

Prayers for your Mom an you buddy....

Little berettas are cool. I have a 70 an 71S .22’s I picked up overseas long ago an they still sing. My only .32 is a Seecamp aka a Rolex that shoots. It only plays well with 60gr winchester silvertips.

Again....hope all is ok for your Mom.

Stay Safe...

Prayers up for Mom. I know how it is. Hang in there.

That pistol is just the cutest thing ever. I think I need one of those. :-)

It’s a winter wonderland!

They’re saying 2 to 4 inches now.

One word of warning: it is vey easy to pop the safety out of the gun when removing the grip panel on the left side. That, in turn, launches a teeny spring and detent plunger that controls the safety. Always pry the grip off from the front, despite the large undercut that locks the grip in place. Also, keep your thumb on the flat face of the safety so nothing pops loose.

I learned the hard way. I also bought a half-dozen springs and detent plungers from Brownells (about $1 each). I've never seen a booby trap like this triggered by trying to remove what seems like a simple grip panel.

I spent three hours trying to get that little pin and spring back to where it belongs, but the long-but-strong spring just wouldn't behave, so I couldn't get the pin in. Then I remembered this handy little tool from Brownells that worked wonders in my 1911 work in getting the safety detent to be depressed enough that I could press in the safety under thumb pressure.

My three hours of sweat and swearing boiled down to two minutes to figure out the proper approach and get the job done. The Marvel detent pin tool: it's not just for M1911s any more.
