for the peddle bikers, good stuff...

Craziest & hardest mass start mountain bike race I have ever done! Megavalanche in Reunion Island was a challenge of bike, body, and mind!

YE GODS! I’m exhausted from just watching the first five minutes. I’ve never seen a course that was that fast AND that rough! Those lava fields are un-be-wee-vabul.

He ran across a patch of a’a about two minutes in that was so rough it made my nards reflexively draw up inside my abdomen. I’m sitting right now with an ice bag in my boxers to keep the swelling down.

You’ve got to be at least half masochist to sign up for something like that.

Memories of the Chaparral 2J. Used lexan ground effects skirts and a Sachs snowmobile engine to power two fans in the ass-end of the car that sucked air out from under it.

FREE photo hosting by Host Pic.Org - Free Image Picture Photo Hosting

This was the only angle the competition ever got to see it from. It was un-catchable.

https://www.hotcars.com/chaparral-2j-see-how-it-worked-and-what-happened-when-it-raced/

Given the flexibility that having a YUGE electrical storage battery brings to the mix, I'm not surprised someone decided to build a road car that sucks. That said, where does the air go? It's a legit concern because the people trying to catch the 2J claimed its driver would deliberately steer for loose grave on the track, because it would get sucked up and blown out the back. As if they needed a cheap trick to be faster than anything else on wheels.

So what happens if you run over grass clippings or plastic shopping bags or small mexikin children? Does it pose a danger to other motorists when those get chopped up and blown out the back? Or top. Or side, as case may be.

Not that I care, truth be told, 'cuz even if I had a mil to spend on a car, I damn sure wouldn't spend it on anything that ugly.

And OBTW,if that thing truly will do 0-60 in 1.4 seconds, there are some know-it-alls in the main forum who'll be feasting on crow for a spell, because they've sworn on a stack of Newton's Principia Mathematica that no road-going car will ever have a 0-60 of less than 2.0 seconds.

Hall had to retire the car here at the Glen because they repaved parts of the track, and the car was sucking up chunks that stuck to the inside of the housing...

Brown to receive Cameron Argetsinger award

Zak Brown, Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Racing, will receive the 10th annual International Motor Racing Research Center Cameron R. Argetsinger Award at a gala on Sept. 12 at the Corning Museum of Glass. The IMRRC said the award is in recognition of Brown's contributions advancing and improving the sport of motor racing. Established in 2014, the CRA Award -- named in honor of the man who, in 1948, conceived, organized and drove in the first post-war road race in America through Watkins Glen -- had been presented at gala events at the CMOG through 2019, honoring such legends of the sport as Chip Ganassi, Roger Penske, Mario Andretti, Richard Petty, the France Family and Bobby Rahal. When the pandemic hit, the event moved first to Watkins Glen International, then to the Harbor Hotel in Watkins Glen, recognizing Lyn St. James, Mike Helton and Richard Childress through 2023. The gala is open to the public. All proceeds benefit the IMRRC, a 501(c)(3) organization.

I’m going to guess that Tony wants Mo Money to fund the NHRA Teams.

It is good to be king.

This is the weekend for the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique and Adrian Newey was there, racing his Lotus 49B. The 49B was the original Cosworth DFV car, using the engine block as a stressed member of the chassis. The cockpit was bolted to one end and the differential and rear suspension bolted to the other.

How apropos, Newey tear-assing around the streets of Monaco in a car designed and built by Colin Chapman hisself. Video here. The proverbial 'kid in a candy store.'

I haven't been able to get a good look to tell what it is now but Newey definitely has ditched the RBR livery on his racing helmet.

The "business" of the Monaco Historique weekend is the Sotheby's auction, and this year's marquee attraction is from the collection of Jody Schechter. The Ferrari 312 T4 he won the 1979 WDC in is expected to bring north of €5 mil.

If I had my 'druthers, I'd 'druther have the other car on offer Scheckter won the odd race in, the Tyrell P34. And it's only expected to go for paltry 1/10th what they're asking for the Ferrari.

You're not going to beat a 6-wheel Tyrrel for "interesting" but there were other cars on offer that jingled my berries. Like a Lancia Stratos, a 1949 Alfa Romeo Passo Corto (straight-6), a Ferrari 365 Daytona Spider, and the last Porsche 917K built.

Yeah, Newey gets to own the candy shop and the best I can hope for is to press my nose against the front window.
