Ping to the Weekly Gardening Ping List.

I hope all of you will stop by.

This is typically a low volume ping list. Once a week for the thread and every once in a while for other FR threads posted that might be of interest.

If you would like to be added to or removed from the list please let me know by FreepMail or by posting to me.

I am wondering what August has in store for us weather wise?

Morning Red
As bad as I hate to say it, I'm sure that the word "hurricane" will be involved at some point for someone here. Living on the Gulf coast, this is our most feared time of the year.

Most gardening is pretty well over here except for some late producing veggies. My personal veggies have been done for almost a month. And it is just too hot for anything other than routine maintanance of the flower beds.

Happy gardening to all

Tomatoes are done for the summer. Squash are just sitting there doing nothing and cucumber vines are not growing at all.

We got 1/2 inch of badly needed rain yesterday and chance for more today. Everything is burning up here in central Texas. This is approaching the 1950 era drought. Water rationing is in effect.

Oh man. Reading all the tomato comments makes me jealous. Lots of disease and cracked fruit here in the NE where it's been cool and rainy. Two black varieties and a potted cherry have produced some fruit so far. Ate a yummy Cherokee Purple in a pasta salad on Wednesday, for which I am thankful considering the weather and my latitude.

Good news - we have figlets! Will pull both potted trees into the sunroom this fall to let them all ripen.

My zuke plants are huge and producing flowers like crazy in the last week. Are all flowers supposed to have a zuke under it? Probably half of them just have stalk not fruit not sure if that is normal or not. Tomatoes are still not turning color, I want a tomato sniff. Peppers were doing great but have slowed down. Jalapenos are getting bigger but not ready yet.

Thank you for the ping.

I am in the tomatoes, and made two batches of salsa yesterday. And since I planted my green/purple/yellow beans in stages I am not being overwhelmed by them. I am getting bell peppers purple and green, cucumbers, pickling, straight 8, burp-less, and an European kind.

Not sure what is left of my corn that the molester raccoons have not devoured but have planted a second bunch that is about a foot high. Got sweet potatoes spreading, onions I used whenever I need, and have tomatoes by the bushel. Oh I did already say I am in tomatoes. And beets at ready when I decide to steam them for a meal. I plan in the next day or so to plant a fall planting of snow peas.

Today I am trying to get some mudding and taping done on a install of a new sliding glass door where the plaster board developed an ugly crack.
