You got me laughing over that. It was hypnotic in a certain way, not overpowering, but definitely highly curious from an interpretive standpoint. Because of the lateness of the time (~3AM) and how freeking cold and deserted is was (literally in the desert), I don't imagine there were many onlookers to "zap." But the behavior ruled out airplanes (obviously) and even helicopters, because of the speed of "bounce" and the vertical distance travelled in such a short time (~3,000 feet UP in about 5 seconds from a stop). The silence was creepy, but I discounted that because of the distance.

Frankly, it looked like some sort of "practice" flight control session, unless there was some sort of hidden significance in the movement itself (also obviously possible).

I have no answers.
