WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- Usually, it's an empty threat: "If you kids don't stop fighting, I'm going to stop this car right now and leave you here!" But a mother from an upper-crust New York suburb went through with it, ordering her battling 10- and 12-year-old daughters out of her car in White Plains' business district and driving off, police said Tuesday.
Madlyn Primoff, 45, a partner in a Manhattan law firm, pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of endangering a child. A temporary order of protection was issued, barring her from contact with the children, who were physically unharmed.
Primoff's lawyer, Vincent Briccetti, would not comment Tuesday on details of the case. But he said, "Madlyn is a great mother connected with a great family, and she is grateful for the outpouring of support from friends and family."
There wasn't much support from strangers, however. Mothers interviewed near the scene said they couldn't imagine doing what Primoff did, though some understood the urge.

Wow, my parents would be in jail 80 times based on these sissy standards.
Actually a 10 year old is in the 5th grade. But, whatever...
a 12 year old is in 7th grade, and a 10 year old in fifth.
I’m not saying what she did was necessarily right, but it wasn’t like leaving a 2 year old in the middle of the road.
How old are you? We ran everyone by ourselves as kids in the 60’s and 70’s - I don’t let my kids go anywhere alone these days....and I certainly wouldn’t kick them out of my car three miles from home and tell them to figure it out if they were 10 and 12.....
I wouldn’t have left either of the two girls alone that far from home in that kind of area - way too dangerous - But, I would have ordered them from the car, drove a walkable distance away, and waited for them - asking if they were ready to behave once they arrived at the car.
In 4th grade I was walking a mile and a half home from school.
Forgot to add, in the snow, uphill both ways.
You are right - I was so stunned that anyone would think this was ok that I did get the grades/ages wrong in my head and didn’t think about it after I posted that - but still, a kid who might be normally watching a video in a car, or playing a game - not watching the streets or surroundings might have no idea how to get home from a city corner 3 miles from home.....
Yes but your Mother didn’t love you Larry.....
I walked that far both ways.
And, there wasn't any major street within 5 or more miles of my home I didn't recognize. I don't think walking 3 miles home would have been a great big deal. Not during the day and in mild weather.
I guess it depends a lot on the city/town. Would be nothing unusual about 10 year olds (4/5th grade) walking downtown and back in my smaller town, and I know I did in first grade. Have to be a little more careful nowadays, though.
People just don't take those kind of chances these days with their children.....
You can also halt the car and park and refuse to go anywhere until the kids are quiet. If they erupt again, park again. If you are going to do this, it helps to have a good book along with you. You can get a little reading in till the kids shut up if you can mentally shut out the noise.
My mom didn’t ever kick me out, but I remember once as an 11 or 12 year old — somewhere in there — I got mad in a restaurant and stormed out, having to walk around 15 miles home (good weather; safe route). My feet were very sore when I finally arrived home.
Wow, are you still that hard headed? lol That was a hard way to learn a lesson huh?
Yes, I am. No change. The problem now is that I often have to give other people a ride home, so storming out solo isn’t really an option.
Haha... yeah I’m kind of hot headed myself...fortunately my husband is a saint, or he’s learned to control his hearing to a point of just smiling, nodding and shutting me out entirely....
We are a mirror image couple then, since my wife is just like your husband. lol
Tony the Tiger could not be approached for comment.
Ten years old and in Class 3? I did not realise that they start so late in the US.
