Pit bull victim: 'I'm a quick healer'
By ZACH BENOIT Of The Gazette Staff
The first time Wesley Fuchs was attacked by a pair of pit bulls owned by a man who lives in the house where he rents an apartment, a dog bite cracked a bone in his right arm. It required surgery, plus 18 stitches and several weeks of physical therapy.
On Friday, about six weeks after the first attack, the dogs came at him again, this time tearing up his left forearm and leaving small bite marks around his right forearm.
The 35-year-old Fuchs was leaving his basement apartment at 1103 Sunnyside Lane, at about 11:10 a.m. when he was attacked by the 3-year-old American Staffordshire terriers, a male and female named Cato and Shorty. The dogs belonged to Justin Lingle, 24, who lives above Fuchs on the ground floor of the home.
Animals euthanized Shortly after the Friday attack, the two dogs were euthanized, said Chase Blaylock, a city animal control officer.
Lingle faces two charges of dangerous behavior. He was cited with a similar charge for the earlier attack, but the case is pending.
Sitting in a bed at St. Vincent Healthcare on Saturday, wearing a hospital gown and with his left arm bundled up in a fat protective wrap, Fuchs was in good spirits and said he hopes to be released sometime today. Both the tricep and bicep areas of his arm were injured, and doctors had to cut his arm open to repair damaged muscles.
"I can handle it," he said, holding up his right arm to show the scar from the first attack. "I'm a quick healer."
Corraling the dogs For Fuchs' family, the scariest part was waiting outside the apartment for nearly an hour while animal control officers worked to corral the dogs. After he was attacked, Fuchs ran back into his basement home, called 911 and stayed on the line with dispatchers for about 50 minutes until paramedics could get to him.
"I just wanted to get out of the basement and get to the hospital," he said.
But his fiancee, Lori Dailey, and stepdaughter, Samantha Beatty, were stuck outside with a crowd of law enforcement officials and onlookers, and had little information about his status.
"It scared me because he was yelling at me and he's the calmest guy you'll ever meet," Beatty, 21, said.
She arrived at the home at 11:10 a.m. and saw the dogs in the yard. They were normally kept inside or in a kennel. She tried to warn Fuchs, but he was already on his way up the stairs.
When Dailey left at 10:50 a.m., the dogs were still inside Lingle's home, and it appears they got out through a window.
"Right when we were leaving, Shorty was chewing on the window and pushing it up with her nose," Dailey said.
Fuchs said they have shared the home with Lingle for about a year and that the dogs weren't aggressive until he tried to break up a fight between the two of them a week before the first attack.
But, he said he, Dailey and Beatty are not upset with Lingle.
"It was an unfortunate event, and we're so sorry for Justin," Beatty said. "It's hard to find neighbors that you get along with right away, but that's how it is with him."

I gladly apply rule .308 to any pitbulls that come on my property.
Promptly followed by the SSS rule.
I have a bear that lives up the hill from my house and he is considerably less dangerous than a pitbull.
Thanks for the publicity!
Even if you do put a little perverted twist to it

Woohoo!
btw, our group will be donating something
regardless of what Chet does.
What will you Chetheads be doing?
The only place you should be able to see a pit bull is in a zoo with the other dangerous animals.
I’d be suing bigtime if a dog marked me the way the victim was here.
Sit~rep~
Still goin’ round-n-round-n-round here,,,

Time for the “Hush Puppy”...;0)
Yeah, they’re burnin’ him up. That’s good. Civilian cops should use hush puppies, IMO. I don’t know if they do, but a few combat types certainly have. They’re good for those who know where to hit.
It would be too easy for the local water dept. to shut down
a block or two and then have sewer maintenance shoot the
sewer line with a 2000psi. sewer cleaner,,,
That can/will suck the traps dry including the turlit!!!,,,LOL
Can't flush nothin’,,,Tooo Easy!...;0)
