iPhone game saves a family's home

Matt Ehlers - Staff Writer

WAKE FOREST -- With unexpected medical bills piling up and his employer suspending its bonus program, Ethan Nicholas and his family faced a financial crisis. So he struck a deal with his wife, Nicole: If she took on more responsibility in caring for their two young boys, he would devote the hours before and after his regular job to building a video game for the Apple iPhone.

The only economic incentive left is to work for the federal government. I’m advising my 23 year old daughter to quit her job and look for work in the Federal government. It wouldn’t be worth her effort to work hard and long hours at her current job in the private sector since her 401K will likely lose its before- tax status. If she works too hard she’ll lose her mortgage deduction and her exemptions, child tax credit, college tuition deduction, charitable contributions, and before tax status of her healthcare insurance. In the end she’ll be far better off working for the government where she won’t have to work as hard or as long and will have unsurpassed benefits for the rest of her life. Good bye private sector jobs and good bye innovation. The perfect storm in the name of Barack Obama has arrived to destroy all private sector incentive.

The funny thing is the angry jealous comments by a “state worker”!

The moron state worker really has no clue that this guy now provides for the salaries of 3-4 state workers just like him.

Plus state worker’s class envy and hatred keeps him oblivious to the simple formula for making huge wads of cash:

1 - write a cool i-phone game
2 - give away a demo version
3 - sell a full version on the apple store for 2.99

Wash, rinse, and repeat.

I’m sorry, but there is a clear reason the state worker keeps being humiliated by life. It’s obvious to everyone but them.

I believe there is money to be made if you can program applications for the IPOD Touch and I-Phone. Take some time and go to the App Store at Apple and you will see the future. There are applications for everything and certainly not just games. This could be as big as the Internet was in the 90’s/00’s. The beauty of it is that computer nerds can make a bundle right now with great apps. Even if O takes half.

learn from the devastation wrought on the IT sector. the clintons showed us the way... it’s just up to us to take advantage of it.

be an employee of an offshore company, take a smaller salary, some dividends, and leave the rest to accrue interest for retirement and/or yearly income in the future.

many countries have very reasonable tax rates. some have no taxes at all. would the fedgov disapprove? of course. they want 100% of your money to give to slackers and idiots in order to gain/insure their votes in the future.

i would advise your daughter to learn at least 2 languages, one asian and some popular european language. (if she can learn to understand other languages, that’d be a big plus in the future as others will converse in front of you thinking you don’t understand... just never let on that you do)

then get a passport... and start to learn international trade.

make as much as she can as fast as she can, and store it where ever she can to insure her financial security into the future.

personally, i would advise him to learn from the H1-bs and offshore his company. why give that money to 0bama and help support his effort to socialize the US while burning down Reagan’s America?

After W there isn't a Reagan's America, Obama gets to destroy what's left.

You gotta love the whiny liberal in the comments section bitching about this guy being “the rich”.

I am so angry today hearing about human scum like that person who think they have a right to the spoils of the toils of others. I just want to stomp on the throat of those lecherous scumbags.

My friend has a similar story.

Her friends husband lost his job and they lost their home but throughout it all the wife remained faithful, saying “God has a plan. We will be okay”

I guess her husband designed something for the ipod and apple just approved it for sale....

Why would she need a new ironing board?

He’s up $700,000 according to the article.

He's already proven that he can make good money while keeping his steady day job. Why quit?

No. Just asking why she’d need a new ironing board. I mean, I didn’t see anything in the article about her needing one, or her being particularly fond of the act of ironing, so your comment begs for clarification.

I hope he got the images he used for the backgrounds legally. Otherwise, the copyright holders could make this guy lose more than his house.
