Okay folks, sorry for the vanity, but I need some advice here.
My children (daughter 9 son 7) go to a Parochial School, and this morning my daughter mentioned that they pray every morning for Obama. I asked her if they used to pray for W and she said, no, never.
Then I said, well, maybe its because hes just starting, to which she responded that theyve been praying for The One since November.
Now, of course, instinctively, I have a problem with this, because its naked partisanship, but whats the remedy? Asking that he not be prayed for anymore doesnt seem very Christian. Should I ask that Republicans be prayed for too? Maybe that makes me the partisan? Should I ask that something be tacked on about and that President Obama sees the wrongs of his ways and stops allowing people to kill babies.? This is a grade school, so Im not sure thats appropriate.
As it stands, Im a little ticked off here and want to get some rational thoughts and suggestions, so anything is much appreciated!
“The One”!? Wow, that just sounds creepy! If that’s not indoctrination, I don’t know what is...
Per Owl_Eagle's original post, they had never prayed for GWB and only started praying for the president in November, presumably after he was elected.
If they were truly praying for the president and not for Obama, why would that have started in November? We didn't change presidentse until the ascension
coronation inauguration which didn't occur until January.
Since it’s private and if it means so much to you...take her out and put her in a different school. We always prayed for world leaders when I went to Catholic School-Mount St. Micheals in the Bronx.
What did the teachers say about this when you asked them?
Of course they should pray for him. He’s an unbeliever. Bush was not.
How about they instead pray for the United States rather than Obama? If Bush didn't get specific prayers, then Obama deserves none.
It literally just came up this morning when we were brushing our teeth and none of the teachers or principal were out due to the cold.
Of course they should pray for him. Hes an unbeliever. Bush was not.
You know what? I know you said this with some amount of levity (because you're one of the funniest posters on here) but that's the SOLUTION!!! The man doesn't go to Church. He's never belonged to a Church that bears any kind of fleeting resemblance to any form of Christianity I've ever heard of.
We can go over all the ways he's un-Christian, and have them pray that he sees the errors of his ways.

the princes of greed, he said,
Look, heres what happened."

Imagine the impact that it would have on America if The Dear Leader became a Christian while in office.
You just keep gettin' better and better, don't you?
Do you ever baby-sit other people's kids?
So true, Ap, so true.
I think this type of double standard is happening all over. The same students didn't hear daily prayers in school for Bush, but now pray for Obama.
It is so scary how Obama is now our President and he gets all the respect and legitimacy of the Presidency. Our checks and balance system is out the window. Our critical examination of issues by the press is nonexistent.
The majority in this country doesn't care and it takes too much effort for them to find out about issues and really think for themselves. Our public schools for the past 40 years are perpetuating the liberal mindset. I am disappointed with this parochial school story.
His uber pro-abortion policies are generally unnoticed by the masses. Obama is historic indeed.
I am praying for God's plan to unfold.

There aren't any Christian schools affiliated with conservative churches in your area?
There's really not, and that's because we live in South Philadelphia. In fact, I'm the only Republican on my entire block.
That's something that we knew when we had kids, so the ship's kind of sailed on that. Moving isn't at all practical at the moment.
Y'know, it's really shocking, but I remember taking my daughters to one of her friends' Christmas parties several years ago, and a bunch of the other parents were there. I think there was a picture of X 42 on the wall (maybe it was MLK and it oddly lead right to a discussion of The Arkansas Love Machine???) and one of the mothers said "I'd (preform a certain sexual act on) [X-42] just for his work in keeping abortion legal." And her HUSBAND was right there!
That's just disturbing on so many levels. At a kid's party? Abortion - and this lady is a "Catholic"??? In front of your husband???
Sigh, that's the kind of garbage I put up with from time to time.
Still, I think the influence that people/ideas like that have very little effect when compared to the example, teaching, and actions of my wife and I.
Wow. What a crappy situation, Owl.
Like others have said, it somewhat depends on the context, but the context is actually irrelevant unless the school/teacher is highlighting WHY they are praying for Obama. I will present two examples. One Goofus, the other Gallant.
GOOFUS: We pray for the Light of America, President Barak Obama, that he will share his wisdom, grace, and spirit to make us all happy and green and guilty of being Catholic.
GALLANT: We pray for the soul of President Barak Obama because he’s the incarnation of Moloch, and believes half of the children in this room should be dead.
We also pray for Aretha Franklin to never wear that hat again.
Otherwise, I would set up a one-on-one meeting with the teacher before going to her superiors. Sometimes that’s all it takes...
It's great that you and your wife are giving your children two wonderful examples. Problem is, with both of you working full-time, the majority of their waking time is spent among adults and peers who don't necessarily share your worldview. They are being influenced. You say that there aren't any Christian schools in your area. How big an area are we talking? I find it hard to believe that nowhere in Philly are there any Christian schools. My cousin drives her daughter 40 miles one way to her private school because she knows that she is getting the best possible education there. My cousin also works full-time. It's a matter of priorities.
What I would suggest is not posting a vanity about on the internet - but actually doing something about it.
Call the school, talk with the teacher, the principal, etc.
Ask questions, require answers, if you aren’t satisfied with the answers, keep asking harder questions.
If this doesn’t work - remove them from this school.
And for all the “homeschool them” proponents. This is not always an option for people, so how about you stop stuffing it down our throats, K?
My sainted grandmother, a devout Roman Catholic, used to say that the worst insult a Catholic could offer you was the phrase “I’ll pray for you.”
He reasoning was that that particular phrase was offered to people who were beyond logic and reason, and therefore only Divine intervention could be effective in changing their hearts. In that sense, prayer for the Usurper is appropriate.
HOWEVER! Prayers of support for an advocate of infanticide and a coddler of Muslim fanatics most certainly are not appropriate.
However, the prayer could be because they are worried about The Obamasiah leading us all over a cliff. Check it out before you freak over it.
If your kids' school and associated parish is orthodox and conservative, they are probably praying for Barry to amend his stances on abortion and socialism. If the school and parish are liberal and Modernist, and this is tantamount to having another God before them, your kids shouldn't have been there in the first place.
