Babies come when they want, and the best preparations sometimes fall short. I was in labor with my first child for 2 days (active labor, contractions every few minutes, really!)so when my second one decided that was the day, I figured I had time (even taking into consideration that second babies are usually faster). So I went to school, taught my classes until 10 to 12 when all of the sudden I felt the head pushing down... It was a rush to the ER and then, guess what, he made us wait another 5 or 5 1/2 hours. So I sympathize with this mom, babies don't always "follow the book". Now, if the officer had rush them to the hospital and then given them a ticket, I would have no problems. The fact that he stopped them when they were rushing to the hospital, that's what I don't like!

I understand what you are saying and I'm not without sympathy. It's just that:

Likewise, if you make the choice to go to work while in labor, you take the risk of rushing to ER.

That seems to be the way things work. Either way, the babies didn't really make these adult choices, did they? :)

Babies have minds of their own. I have delivered several babies on the side of the road. I have also delivered one at a Home Depot, and one in the parking lot of a grocery store.

The weirdest thing was a young girl and her husband that were probably still in their teens, but maybe 20. They came walking into the station, said they thought she was in labor, but they weren’t sure. She wasn’t having any pain. We moved her into a private area on a couch, I looked down to see the baby, cord attached laying on the couch. Mom never felt a thing. Unfortunately, my wife didn’t have the same kind of delivery.
