I think that you may be mistaken partly anyway.
Children are first and foremost observers. The constantly watch and listen to their elders try to mimic and make sense of what they do.
They then take what they have learned and try to put it to their purposes, make mistakes and learn.
I tried this for a while with Democratic voters older than me. Eventually I realized they didn't have a clue.
