2 foreign films I liked were the original Swept Away and Cinema Paradiso.

I actually saw Remains of the Day about 14 years ago. I found it to be an extremely depressing movie due to the emotional limitations of the characters and the wasted opportunity for a man to take the opportunity to love a woman who was every bit what his heart desired. The man lived a pointless existence and while that was the message of the movie I found it far too restraining.
