Whoever gave the go ahead to build the Mini-30 and the Mini-14 should be whipped and tried for theft. I will never buy or sell another Ruger.
I've heard many disparaging comments regard the accuracy of the Mini's. However few would put down Ruger's bolt action offerings.
I've got a Mini-14, and while it's not a "tack driver," it's a fun rifle for the USPSA matches I've used it in, as well as a .223 plinker. Not terribly accurate, but it doesn't create huge groups at 100 yards. But I wouldn't use it for hunting.
On the other hand, I LOVE my other rugers... A Security Six in .357, a Redhawk in .44Mag (that I use to shoot loads that I'd NEVER fire out of my S&W 629), a Vaquero in .45LC, and finally, a .22LR MK2 that I'd have to guess I've fired at least 100,000 rounds through, probably more. And I've heard nothing but good things about their bolt action rifles.

My Mini 14 was pretty accurate until I put a muzzle brake on it and that messed with the barrel harmonics or something—couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn until I took the darned thing off and then it was fine again. It is no tackdriver, but then, it isn’t an M1A, either.
