Well, in a few hours, a few LSU folks will recall with dread the name Greg Frey. Yep, the Buckeye quarterback no one remembers but die-hard Buckeye and LSU fans. The quarterback who led the team to one of the most spectacular comebacks ever witnessed at Ohio Stadium.
As Wikipedia puts it: On September 24, 1988, he rallied Ohio State from a 33-20 deficit in the final four minutes for a 36-33 victory over the ninth-ranked LSU Tigers.
I was at that game in the shoe, urging all the fans who were leaving early to stay put. It was gratifying to see them pour back in as the miracle comeback unfolded. When Bobby Olive made that flying catch in the end zone for the win, I distinctly remember sharing overwhelmingly jubilant joy with thousands of other Buckeyes around me.
The LSU fans who shuffled back to their cars were morose indeed .... it's a long long drive to Louisiana from Ohio. These same fans are now hoping for a dose of that gloom to be heaped upon the carloads of Bucknuts on their way back home from the Dome tonight.
I have some advice for Tiger fans: don't buy the extra beer for the party after the game. The spirit of Greg Frey is with us still.
OSU over Tigers, 24-21.
LSU has to have set a record for most converted 4th downs in a season.
Well the first two time loser in the BCS Championship Game is also the FIRST TWO TIME WINNER!!!
I was not what you were talking about, LOL.
I’m downing a Tecate right now—salute.
Well what else are they gonna do in the south. LOL!
Thank you for participating. Without all the fans and pingees, there would be no ping list.
And what does that mean exactly?
The SEC has also won the last two basketball titles. ;)
I think Georgia played a great game against Hawaii. It would’ve been nice to see them play a USC, but it didn’t happen for a number of stupid reasons. The ranking systems are very skewed, and it will remain a mess. The rankings that come from humans are always full of error because people try to think, “How will this team play against that team?” And then they base their ranking accordingly. How often do we see that these same people’s predictions are wrong when the games are actually played?
Congratulations to the LSU Tigers for this win and their great season.
Exclamation point!!!
TD LSU. This puts it out of reach Im afraid.
NAil in the coffin TD.
I;ll second that. Thanks for a great year.
Just heard a report that David Lee is going to Miami instead of with Nutt at Ole Miss.
The Buckeyes have been mauled by the Tigers like that kid in the San Francisco Zoo.
Don’t forget gymnastics!
