German Police Battle Giant Parrot

A giant escaped parrot has been caught by police after a violent struggle in which it tore up the uniform of one of the arresting officers, police said. Walkers in a forest near the town of Walldürn in southwestern Germany had alerted police that a huge bird with a colorful plumage was sitting in a tree.

Two policemen dispatched to the scene caught sight of the parrot, which was about 90 centimeters (about three feet) long. "He didn't say anything, and definitely didn't provide his name and address. He just screeched deafeningly," said a spokesman for the Walldürn police.

"It was a big beast. When one of the officers managed to grab him he wrecked his leather jacket."

The bird finally calmed down enough for the officers to put him in their squad car. "But if the officers thought their troubles were over they were mistaken. The harmless attempt to report their successful mission to headquarters triggered an almost uncontrollable outburst of aggression by their involuntary feathered guest," police said in a statement.

It's a quagmire in Germany. Our troops should pull out of Germany immediately. Let the parrots take over.

It must be against the law in Germany for a parrot to sit in a tree. Throw him in the cooler.

3 footer is nothing. In my days, about a score and three years ago, I saw a parrot which was a five footer, with tail. They were asking $3300 for it, and I figured that by simply keeping my money inside the cage I would be better off - no feeding, no cleaning, no vet bills.

From what region was that bird? Amazonia? Seems pretty big.

That must've been some sight -- a huge parrot in a multi-colored leather jacket. A shame the policeman ruined it...

Could well be amazonian. Do not remember, to tell the truth. At that time I did not have a car, and was walking by a strip shopping mall when a rainstorm hit. I hid from it in a pet shop - and there it was, a 5 foot parrot in a large cage. I couldn't have hauled it back home even if I had the money - the cage was much bigger than me. It was a brightly colored, garish bird.

Remarkable bird, the Walldürnian Blue. Beautiful plumage!

A giant escaped parrot has been caught by police after a violent struggle. . . .

Here we see a giant parrot engaged in a life-or-death struggle with a huge python. . .

Likely, if the story is true.

Hyacinth Macaws can get that big.
