They are not bones are they? They are fossils, which means that all bone substance has been leeched out and replaced by mineral matter preserving the shape only. Right? No DNA, IOW.

I'm not sure on the DNA issue; I seem to remember at least one case recently where very ancient DNA was recovered, although I don't remember the specific circumstances. Regarding the title itself: as per FR's request, I never change titles of articles ... you'll have to take it up with the BBC ;-)
