A cornerstone of leftist ideology is the capacity to knowingly or unknowingly practice a degree of self deception that is amazing. Orwell described it as "double think" or the ability to hold two competely contradictory thoughts at the same time. Stalin, in the process of starving 20 million and deporting tens of thousands more declared that collectivization was "Dizzy with Success!" Even those many who knew the truth followed, for being complicit with obvious lies was the foundation of orthodoxy and security. For the leftist, there is no truth or lie, only ideology and that which advances it. They believe that the unaided human intellect can shape society and man. They believe this ability to maintain purity, and do the "hard thing" is a virtue, where is is at best willful ignorance, and mostly pure evil.

At first I thought, well, just bring up a point for every point she has with a rational logical response.

Then I remembered my most recent conversation with a cousin and aunt. I tried to be civil but left and have no interest in talking with them again. Why, you ask? Because the hate for Bush was really all that was there...the content made no difference, they didn't want to have a real discussion. She's so lost, the only concession you'll get from her is to pretend to take the bad stuff she says personally (you really think I'll forcibly convert Jewish people to Christianity or shoot them? Etc.) and make her backtrack. that might teach her to be a little wiser on the broad brush. If you're not a religious right person then use your family or friends. The overall effect, if successful, is to subconsciously change her mentality from "all Republicans are insane & bloodthirsty" to "only a few are insane & bloodthirsty". That's about as big a step in the right direction you can expect, I think. You certainly won't win on the facts.

On the other hand, you might want to toss back rebuttals of some of the more egregious lies - I couldn't stomach reading the whole thing, but a couple that did stand out were:

Clinton had a balanced budget for 8 years and NO DEFICIT...

There has not been a balanced budget, under any president, since about 1960. The National Debt has increased every year since then.

Those types are so stupid they fall for this little trick I like to perform: take their stand on an issue and claim it was being proposed by a conservative Republican and watch them spew hatred at how bad it was.

Or take a conservative idea and attribute it to a left wing Dem like Clinton and watch them praise it.

She's an ok woman, although a little ditzy and I thought even before I knew her politics...she started this by sending an article about Warren Buffett investing in Israel. I responded with another article about how Israel is thriving economically. She mentioned she was a Dem, so I asked her how she could be a Dem when the Dems are not friends of Israel....

I think I will respond, intellectually, to her. I actually had my evangelical Christian friend write the response about Christians and Israel. I even learned a few things. At least I'll get her on some of these out and out lies. The whole Social Security thing is just absurd, and they can't even see the absurdity of their argument.
