Did they really think a movie that appeals to such a small proportion of the population would do well?
I haven't seen it ... maybe it's a good story, but the press for this film is stuck on the fact that there are gays in it ... so that's what people are going to think about it; it's a gay cowboy movie.
I can't say I'm surprised that King Kong isn't doing as well as some people thought. It's good, but Lord of The Rings it ain't. And if the producers expected it to be as successful just because of Peter Jackson they need to come back to reality.
They aren't cowboys eithers. They herd sheep. They are shepards.
Just idle speculation on my part, but what if there were movies made that have some basis in reality? What started out as a bad joke, two queer cowboys, doesn't that send off some kind of discordance with most people's idea of the West?
The entire tale was meant to be a mean-spirited spit-in-your-face parody of the rather isolated life of most range riders, as if the very isolation were the inspiration for deviant desire. After all, who's going catch you out there? Sheer fantasy on the part of the script writers.
I think Kong was better-suited to a summer release than a Christmas release.
I am turned off of the movie because of the game.
One way Jackson tried to get young guys interested in the movie was the game.
But, the game sucks.
It is scripted to the hilt. I HATE games like that. I want to be able to do whatever I want almost in a game, not be forced to take one or two choices.
That turned me off of the film. I am sure a lot of other young people are feeling the same.

That's their whole problem, in a nutshell. Liberals are completely koolaid convinced that they are the majority and we are the minority.
The only reason Bush won FL in 2000 was he disenfranchised voters; the only reason he won OH in 2004 was Diebold stole the election.
The are convinced that most of America is more "tolerant" and liberal, and it is the evil uberconservative capitalists corporations that keep this from coming out. It's a giant conspiracy, that VRW one.
Most of America has gay tendencies and will view this as a tender love story. Listen to anyone from DU and they are firmly convinced of this garbage.
Cowboys don't herd sheep. Sheep herders herd sheep. The majority of homosexuals are not happy. Call it what it is: a homosexual sheep herder movie.
I'm surprised that Peter Jackson even bothered to remake King Kong. Was anyone clamoring for a remake of King Kong? What a waste of talent.
That's it. Who wants to see a story about a couple of butthole surfers at Christmastime? I will take that blown $15M and create a business and some jobs to go along with it.
A lot of people think rich people are smart and got that way because of their intelligence and hard work. Not in this case. There are flocks of rich and stupid people who flood our senses with their dementia.
Heath Ledger has never been a good enough actor to make me believe he was ever hetero. Methinks he'll have problems convincing anyone else, too. Then again, it's good that he's found his "screen calling".
The problem with King Kong is bad casting.
There are no actual men in the cast. Instead you get a pudgy nebbish and a somewhat metrosexual guy with a beak nose.
And it certainly is not a way of keeping any good that may have been gained from devout Christians through the Passion of the Christ.
Evidently you don't know the difference between sheep herders and cowboys.
I never understood the King Kong clamor PJ raised. The story never got into my blood the way it did Jackson's. And although I was never a big fan of Johnny Cash, I am thinking of seeing "Walk the Line" instead of "King Kong," because I like Reese Witherspoon's acting so much. In time, I'm sure I'll see both on DVD, if not sooner.
Kong isn't doing good?
I'm sad :(
The film will be required viewing in all elementary schools through out the land.
