This reminds me of the Erik Van Danikan spew from the 1970's about how we evolved form aliens. Now it is Chinese aliens. Right! We were discovered by the Vikings first. Is this guys saying that we should were hats with horns, travel the world pillaging, plundering and stealing women? Because I am OK with that. If, on the other hand he is saying that we should bow before a country whose time has come and gone, forget it!

Chinese can have Canada. Their imigration laws are so liberal there almost all Chinese anyway.

Of course, it really doesn't matter. The Chinese may have come here first, but they did nothing with that knowledge. Columbus in his inferior, little boats was the one that did something. The same is true in so many other areas. The Chinese invented gunpowder, but did nothing with it. The Arabs made many scientific discoveries, but did nothing with them. Algebra was an Arab invention, but nothing came of it in their hands. The West is the dominant culture on the planet because we take knowledge and use it; we advance it. The Chinese "discovery" of North America has no value beyond its use as an answer in Trivial Pursuit.

Modern China's growth is due to its adoption of Western civilizational attributes - right down to having Chinese kids flocking to learn classical music to the exclusion of traditional Chinese instruments.

What you said of course is true - but you are incorrect it does not matter in the mong run. It does matter in the sense we can learn from history. For example will future generations consider our space missions in the same way we know talk about the Chinese exploring the world and then ending all exploration? That was just an example - for argument's sake.

ok, so columbus used this guys maps, to rediscover the new world, therefor, those who are suing over land rights and retributions should look to china instead?

re # 86
Knowledge and information flows between civilizations
The Chinese invented paper, gun-powder, compass, and this spreads around.
The WEst invented a lot of modern stuff and this spreads around too
And this process will go on and on---the exchange of ideas and knowledge between peoples
One of the resason the Chinese stagnated in the 17th -the 19th Century was because of a devious scheme by their own Emperors to keep the peasants poor and illiterate, in order to prevent any uprising against their despotic rule

Today, the Govt seems to at least provide universal education

True enough. It is still a mystery why China went so isolationist right after these fabled and almost forgotten voyages.
