Regular Morning Joe viewers are all too familiar with Joe Scarborough's annoying habit of working the fact that he used to be a congressman into conversations.
But for a bragging change of pace, Scarborough somehow managed to slip into his Mother's Day reminiscences that in high school, he apparently was a multi-sport star.
In baseball: "I played baseball. All-Star, had a high average, all this stuff."
In basketball: "I was scoring like 30, 35 points a game."

I was too! Though my sports were chasing girls and riding motorcycles. No time for that varsity shyt. They was mostly assholes anyhow. I don’t think that one sports “hero” from HS ever made anything out of himself. The only guy who made the news was kicked out for putting exploding light bulbs in the locker bays. He became some big muckity muck at JPL. So much for HD sports.
Effete beta males cling to - and exaggerate - past high school glories. (But, I guess I can’t talk. It seems my Pony league batting average goes up every 5 years that I boast about it...)

It helps explains why Joe Scarborough - from a normal middle class background - has his own show on TV and is surrounded by 'elites'. "Three kids and not one natural athlete" is an amazing piece of honesty, but not so much as to be crushing. He was blessed to have such a Mother.

Ha ha! I was a late bloomer, pretty girls had no interest in me during HS. I was a live dummy at football practice. Made a mini-bike and a 3-wheel atv in HS shop classes. Girls didn’t care though.
Met my wife 5 years after school days, and she was a late bloomer too. Didn’t matter in the slightest to her that I wasn’t a HS sports ‘star’.
Had the prettiest wife at the 10 year HS reunion, and that hasn’t changed at every reunion since.
