On the VP Short List: What Would Governor Doug Burgum Bring to the Republican Ticket?
PJ Media ^ | 05/12/2024 | Rick Moran

The auditions for vice president continued on Saturday as North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum found himself center stage at Donald Trump's Jersey Shore mega-rally.

Burgum is on the short list of candidates for vice president and got the full treatment on Saturday. He got to ride on Trump's campaign plane and spoke briefly at the rally.

During his speech, Trump praised Burgum, saying that "he probably knows more about energy than anybody I know."

He added cryptically: "So, get ready for something, okay? Just get ready."

Burgum ran for president and dropped out in December before the first nominating contests had been held. He has impressed people besides Trump with his depth of knowledge not only on energy issues but foreign policy as well.

But many political insiders raise an eyebrow at the thought of Burgum joining the ticket. His fellow North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer was "surprised" when the rumor mill churned out Burgum's name. He didn't see the advantage “because a white male from a state with three electoral votes that haven’t gone to a Democrat since LBJ does not seem to bring a lot of electoral value to the ticket.”

But Cramer thinks that Burgum has moved on to Trump's radar because of his passionate defense of the former president.

“Nobody has played their cards better since the primary,” said Scott Jennings, a former political adviser to President George W. Bush. “Trump is a casting director. Who looks more like a VP than Burgum?”

It's almost as if Burgum entered the presidential race to make a play for vice president. It's not unheard of, of course. He may have believed that even a failed run for the White House would raise his profile enough to be considered.

Are you still going to vote for Trump if he’s VP?

Trump’s Infatuation with billionaires? Was Mike Pence a billionaire? Most of his staff and cabinet were not billionaires.

We agree on that.

I think a lot of people who are reacting with “He’s boring”, etc. haven’t seen very much of him. Did you watch his speech in New Jersey this weekend? He’s actually a pretty decent speaker and just as importantly, does not come across as insincere like Mike Pence did.

He had by far more billionaires in his cabinet than any other president.

Here’s a list of Trump’s cabinet secretaries. Hardly what I would call an infatuation with billionaires. On the other hand, if it’s the right billionaire, a billionaire could very well be the best man for the job. Someone who actually has experience with the subject matter is not a bad thing, as long as their loyalties are to the country and not to the 1%. Someone like, I don’t know, Trump, for example.

BTW, here’s a look at Obama’s cabinet. Maybe on or two fewer billionaires, but the billionaire he had - John Kerry - was a doozy. He also had a number of very wealthy multi-millionaires - like Hillary Clinton. I’ll take Trump’s cabinet any day.

No. I just watched him at the debates. He comes across as thoughtful and succinct. Two good qualities, but not so much for a candidate running a campaign.

This is all I found. I’ll watch it in a bit.

Last I knew, Kerry wasn’t actually a billionaire.

But Wilbur Ross, Linda McMahan, Betsy DeVos, Elaine Chao, Steve Mnuchin, Alex Azar, Bill Barr, etc., etc.

What a mix of billionaires and butt boys to billionaires!

Bill Barr a billionaire? Alex Azar a billionaire? Etc. a billionaire? Come on man. Give me a break. As far as John Kerry, he and his wife’s combined wealth hovers at about a billion.
