As I get older the question is how do I reduce my collection without running afoul of the law? I had always thought gun shows were my best bet. Now I am unsure. How do I know a prospective buyer isn’t an ATF agent entrapping me? My kids have no interest in guns whatsoever. I suppose I could just die and let them do whatever with them.

I'm getting old but I'm open to being adopted.

I put mine on consignment at a local gun store. Their fee was 15% of the sale price. Maybe there is one near you that would do that.

I have bought and sold on Gunbroker. It's a relatively easy process. If you sell a long gun, you can use the USPS. They allow private citizens to ship through them. You ship it to the buyer's FFL. Their FFL does the background check and the buyer has to fill out the 4473. That complies with all of Big Brother's demands.

If you sell a handgun, you simply find a local FFL to ship. IIRC, neither UPS nor FEDEX allows private citizens to ship handguns through them anymore. My FFL charges $40 to ship and the buyer pays those fees.

Otherwise, you can join any one of a dozen gun forums and post your guns through their classifieds. Then follow the above protocol.

Sell the lot of them to a FFL dealer. You won’t get the best price, but you will be done with them all at once.

Lots of States allow private sales/gifting without involving others for background checks:

I'd hang on to them. Times are heading down a bad road. If the bottom drops out, your kids might find a new interest in firearms.
