Systemic fungal infections in general are opportunistic and only occur in severely immunocompromised, critically ill patients. Think end stage cancer, etc. Patients that have a high mortality rate regardless of the Candida infection. It’s astounding that the article doesn’t even mention this fact. Fear mongering at its best.

If you look at most stories and headlines these days and pay attention the valence of the words you will see them aggressively trying to trigger people.

In a lot of cases I don’t even think the writers understand what they are doing—they are merely aping what they’ve been raised reading.

Once you decode that process, you can see a lot of unsubstantiated stuff being passed off as news. But...it gets clicks. And that is ALL that matters.

Exactly, something like this spreads well in a densely populated group compromised by damaged immune systems.

Now what could possibly have caused such a disaster?
