Season 4 of the Fox series “24” begins with Muslim terrorists using Mexican cartels to cross into the U.S. Later, they hack into a U.S. defense contractor and get assistance from the Chinese consulate, and sleeper cell Muslim immigrant families in the U.S. to carry out attacks on U.S. nuclear power plants and eventually obtain a nuke itself. Jack Bauer saves the day as usual, at the last possible moment. But what seemed far fetched in 2005 seems all-too feasible feasible in 2023.
They’ll never make that episode if it was still on TV today. But we weren’t woke 20 years ago.
And still we’re seemingly caught flat-footed.
